I asked a salesman how much he was selling it for and he said 22,000 (which is quite a lot, but I've been saving up for the SR swap and have around 6K saved up, so I could put down a pretty decent down payment). It's a 94 with 40K miles. Since the previous owner(s) of my car kept it in such terrible condition, I keep running into problem after problem. SO HELP ME GUYS~! What should I do? Keep fixing and work on my car like I had planned, or sell it and get the FD?
I mean, normally I wouldn't even give selling my 240 a second thought, but since everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who has even the slightest interest in imports wants a 240sx with a SR swap nowadays and keeping the 240 is losing it's appeal. I just wish I had lots and lots of money so I could get myself a M3 and CBR600RR ;p
For what it's worth, as a previous Mazda technician I would NEVER get an FD that hasn't gone past 60k, and/or had it's turbos never replaced. It was a joke that we had that every 60k the FD needed turbos or an engine.
However, if you learn how to keep the rotaries alive then you won't have that big of an issue and they CAN be reliable. The only issue you can't fix is the poor gas milage.
Also understand that the FD is 22k. If you do a good amount of looking around you can find an awesome condition FD with a rebuilt motor for 15k or so. That alone saves you at least $140 / mo. in car payment!
If you are looking at cars that are in that price range, don't be afraid to spend a little more and get a new vehicle. Give it a proper break-in (not driving like an idiot) and you will have a car that will last alot longer, be more reliable, and keep more of it's value.
