Just curious, is anybody willing to trade their 2006+ M Black Housing Headlights for chrome ones, it has to be adaptive headlights. Or know a place that can paint mines black?

I would, but it takes an obscene amount of time and work to remove the headlights, and I already had to drill into mine in the back for my aftermarket bulbs and ballast.

Did you have to remove the bumper to get the headlights off?

The design is f'in stupid.

I could take out the headlights in my Maxima in like 5 minutes. The entire f'in assembly. Most new cars requiring bumper removal. I don't understand why they'd design it that way.

If it was easy to remove, I would have already modded my lights with a better projector lens, paint, etc. but it's just such a hassle that it's not worth it.

Yes, the entire bumper must come off, additionally you will spend probably 20 minutes per light removing the cables as they are VERY hard to get at and disconnect. Reinstalling is almost as bad.

The reason the design is as it is now is most likely due to the fact in the early 2000s just about everyone...especially the maximas...were getting their lights stolen. At $1000 a piece, I think you would prefer the extra time taken to get to your headlights out than to pay for new headlights. My girl at the time got jacked twice for hers...$4000. I bet if it happened to you, you wouldn't mention the "stupidity" of it again...food for thought.

I get that...but isn't that why we have car insurance? Insurance is there in case they steal your lights, your wheels, hell...even your wiper blade (although the deductible would make filing a blade claim not worth it obviously). Anything could get stolen...why alter the simplicity of an install to such a great extent because a bunch of people (probably less than 5%) who own that particular model got their lights stolen?

That's just me. Maybe I don't truly sympathize with those owners because I live in the country and my nearest neighbor is like 2 football fields away.

I am one of those who took apart my headlights to get them painted and it does take some time. I made a little write-up that IlyaKol might have stickied somewhere, I'm not sure. It's not hard, just lots and lots of clips and screws to remember where it all goes when you put the front together. It's a good weekend project if you can leave your car unassembled for a day or two. Things I removed were the front wheels, the wheel liner, bumper, grill, air dam and it's probably been 2-3 years and no leaks, condensation, fading, etc.

Wow, this will have to wait till I get back from my trip then. I'm going to move on with it and take detailed pics of the process. My wife will get mad but I'll answer back and tell her how much these headlights would cost if I bought em'. :woot: kudos to me!

I think your a little confused. I am also looking for the black housing headlights but since I have an extra set of headlights. I'm going to try to paint them myself. If they come out good, I can maybe sell em. :gotme

Excactly TDot. I live in Brooklyn and when the 04 Maximas and Acura Tl/Cl's were out, I would see them with "black eyes" allllll the time. I live near a bunch of body shops and they would have them in there constantly just for that. There would be at least 2-3 a day. And if you're saying that's what insurance is for, NYC insurance premiums are HIIIIIIGH. I would hate to keep having to file a claim for lights. They would either raise my insurance, or just drop me. Not to mention the deductible that most people have to pay every time. I for one, am glad that these aren't easy to take.
