Hi Guys,

One of my 96 Qs has developed a TC issue. I had not had the car out for a month. The last time out all was aok. Now when I start the car, the TC pump revs up and shuts down about five or six times, then it shuts down and the TC lights come on along with the check engine light.

This happens on all start ups. It drives fine, the brakes works fine.

I tried swapping the two relay units out of the black TC box with two good units. No result.

My next move it to take it to my mechanic and have them put it on the computer.

Any ideas as to direct my mechanic?

Thanks for any help,

Peter B.

Hey Peter.. Most likely it's the TCS actuator (the little brake reservoir thing by the battery). I've seen this a few times and that's usually the culprit. It's probably NLA from nissan, and even if you could get your hands on a new one it'd probably be ungodly expensive, so used is probably the way to go.

There's no way to pull the codes on the TCS control module without a Consult specifically for the Q (and I would doubt even most Infiniti dealers have this anymore), however if you pull the panel between the trunk and the gas tank, you can read the codes by looking at a blinking light on the TCS control module (if memory serves it's hanging from the rear shelf just to the right of the compartment on the rear shelf).

Hi Wes, I'll look for a reservoir. It does not look like it has any moving parts. Could it be clogged?

Also, on another thread some suggested replacing the two blue relays under the battery. They said it's part number: 25230-89981, but mine are both 91543 2611. Are these the same relay?

Also, I think I am reading my shop will be helpless here. Is that correct?

Thanks for any advice :)

Here's a couple of threads that may help..

the-loud-buzzing-under-the-hood-tcs-act ... 70780.html

tcs-noise-t227472.html

abs-tcs-indicator-lights-t583048.html

Usually if the TCS actuator is buzzing replacing the relays won't help, usually when the relays go bad you will just get a slip/tcs light with no noise.

You could point your shop to the part in the FSM where it shows the self diagnosis, but I'd be very surprised if they had the tools to pull the codes out of one of these dinosaurs!

Ok, my Infiniti service dept has a consult that will diagnose a 96 and a service writer who has owned three Qs. If this is the actuator, can it be disabled? Perhaps the shop will know. My local mechanic says it will pass inspection with the check engine light and TCS lights on because it is a limited driven vehicle.

If I remove the relays will this deactivate the TCS? Does the TCS have a fuse I can remove? I don't mind paying for a repair/replacement of the unit even though it is expensive.. I love the cars that mush. It's just a not attainable part. So I am aok with disabling it.

I suppose the only way would be to unplug it at the TCS actuator... Then you could take the bulbs out of the instrument cluster... BAM no more lights!! :)

if you can diagnose precisely as to what failed, I can reproduce it
