It's on every time I turn on the car. Is there an error or could this be a real problem?

Yes there should be a DTC recorded. Probably an ABS Sensor (about $180) or something related to monitoring the wheel speeds, transmission, etc, since the VDC works by monitoring all that. Take it to the dealer. It usually isn't anything too serious.
