Car is putting down 440hp and just shy of 400tq, i'm having bad traction issues in my s14.. At the top of 2nd and 3rd is when the car breaks loose bad. Pretty scary. My tires are 275/40-R17's and the rear camber is -1.5 degrees which should be fine

I do not have LSD yet, and i want to get a decent lsd just to put the power down - i don't plan on drifting the car so I dont need anything fancy schmancy...

My questions are: is a 180sx VLSD sufficient and reliable for this power? and do you think 275's are big enough tires for this kind of power (or should i go widebody and get some 305s?)

Also if i planned on getting an s15 LSD with output shafts, what would I need to get it to fit in my s14 pumpkin?

First off, you seem a bit misguided in your quest for traction.

What purpose are you serving by negging out the rear camber? 1.5 degrees isn't too bad, but the closer to 0, the more contact patch you have.

The width of the tire is somewhat irrelevant. What compound is it? What brand? A 275 series s***ty tire is still a s***ty tire. Look at upgrading your rubber. This is probably the best thing to do for your traction woes.

A VLSD will not help you at all, especially with that power. The VLSD controls traction with a fluid "pouch" filled with viscous fluid. Once it heats up, it expands, locking the diff. This fluid CANNOT be changed out (easily anyway) and will not be up to the power. Not to mention, any VLSD hanging around these days will be worn out.

If I am not mistaken, the S15 diff still uses the R200 housing, meaning it will bolt right up.

Tire width is good, but like bradt said, if you have a crappy tire compound then that would cause the spinning. But the main issue is that you have an open diff with 400 some odd HP... Of course your gonna have traction issues. Buy a J30 diff or an s15 if you want LSD. And, bring your rear camber to 0.

Open end diff? Not good for that power I make 468/453 tq and I use a welded diff with more neutral camber.

So i'm curious to is the best lsd for 400-500rwhp is a kaaz 1.5 or a J30? I read on other post that it will hold up a lot better then the vlsd's

VLSD's are stock... and really not meant for anything other than stock.

400whp is pushing it waaay over its limit. Don't be surprised if you break axles or driveshafts..

This is easily your best bet.The S15 HLSD is awesome for circuit and drag racing applications...

The VLSD is a decent LSD but over time it loses its effectiveness...Nissan rates their VLSD to about 60K miles and it goes down hill from there. I have seen junk yard VLSDs lock up real late or not lock up very well.

HLSD is cheap, relatively easy to get and it has been done before with tons of write ups. Just make sure to get the S15 output shafts as well

get some R compound rubber out back, or even drag radials. your suspension setup also comes into play here as well. what kind of suspension are you running? if you want to set it up for strictly drag/some street i would weld your stock diff, run drag radials, set rear camber to 0, and add some soft springs shocks out back for better weight transfer over the rear tires on your launch.
