Has anyone experienced poor traction in the snow on stock tires?

I have been driving my 2008 2.5S Altima in the snow here in MI and seem to be sliding a bit. I had my friend drive it in a parking lot and he agreed. I have another friend that has a 2006 Altima who says his is not great either, he added Michelin all season triple tread tires and says that has helped.

My 97 Altima seemed to do better even, is it because of the lighter weight of newr cars or tire width? Has anyone gotten snow tires or recommend snow tires?

Funny, i was just getting yelled at by the wife because of this. Her '08 has to be the worst FWD car I've ever driven in the snow. I spared no expense on tires too; Hakka 5's best winter tire on the market.

The poor traction must have something to do with the lightness of the engine. The rear of the car is definitely larger than the front; throw in 20 gallons of gas.

Are you recommending an (ultra) high performance summer tire for snow/winter use? I'd be a little wary myself.

I think the main problem is the tires. Stock tires on mine are garbage when the temp drops. I noticed this as soon as it started getting colder, even before the snow came. Mine's pretty decent with a set of Blizzaks in the moderately deep snow we've been getting lately.

Think stock tires are bad, try driving in the snow with low profile tires. I can barely get out off my shoveled driveway!

Just got a new set of Michelin X-Ice I2 snow tires, these things make an amzing difference on my car and would recommend them.

The continentals the car came with have good tread but for some reason just don't perform well in the snow or ice. I'm able to stop faster without having the ABS turn on every little path of ice now too, also don't spin out every time and go around corners without sliding.
