Can someone fully explain Traction Control to me. I just read some things that just don't make sense to me.

on the Q, there is a second throttle body.

when the traction computer determines that there is too much torque going to the rear wheels, it closes the secondary throttle body to reduce power and regain traction.

some cars have electronic LSD. its an open diff, but the computer can apply the brakes to the spinning/low traction tire which causes the opposite wheel to receive more power.

Ok, thanks. That's just about the way I thought it worked. Almost anyway. I was reading an article that said there was something on the center console of the Q45 that had something to do Traction control, but in another article a Q owner was saying they had Traction control and there was no indicator. Talking to a guy in Greensboro, NC about Q's he also was mentioning something to the effect that the was no indicator.

I find this strange. Since it's not a given that a TCS is standard.

I'm almost positive that you must have a TCS button/switch, but that may not apply to 90-93 models.

I wonder if the guy was referring to LSD not TCS.??

I've got a 92 Active and I don't have any switch. I'm pretty sure that even on the 90-93's there is a button there if you have TCS.

Just goes to show you that some folkes got no idea and say they do. I'm telling you, you gotta be carefull and really check into things before you buy anything... big or of importance because people will rip you off...

the 90-93 "A" models did not come with traction control available from the factory. Ask 1992Q45A as the Stillen Q that he has was somehow specially retrofitted with traction control. From 1994 on...you can get the traction control with the "a" model.

The rear brakes would go up in smoke if the power wasn't cut off simultaneously...........that's the dangerous part as the system engages when you pull out in front of a semi because of the turning angle......should only engage when steering wheels straight but it doesn't because drivers don't know to power thru a fish tail.

Strange that they didn't increase the robustness of the rear brakes.

Not using oem soft pads makes for a strange and unsafe traction operartion in cold weather as the auxillary throttle body goes deeper into shutting the engine down to nothing then snaps back if you don't lift from the throttle..............the 94-96 are better with revised software and lower power.
