Alright... this is certainly a little off topic, but I figured this might be a good place to get some ideas.

I'm writing a paper discussing the physics and geometry of "traction" as it applies to both on and off road applications.

I'm going to leave it that broad and nonspecific for now, in hopes that I might gather enough sources and opinions to narrow it down and be more focused later on.

What I'm hoping some of you suspension/tire gurus might do... is perhaps point me in the direction of some good sources of information. So... if there's anything you can think of off the top of your head that makes for good reading on the subject and might help me out... I would really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

chec my FAQ, theres some nice links, howstuffworks.com has tons of usefull info on tires and such, things to remember:

friction is traction, without friction traction does not exist. friction is determined by contact area, weight and the frictional co-effiecients of the materials.

just a little bit of easy stuff.have fun-chet

Rockin....

Thanks Chet!

I think I'm approaching it from two angles.... aspects of traction from the issues you described above, plus traction from suspension in regard to proper geometry, spring and dampening rate, wheel travel etc etc. There is a huge amount of research going into this... so your links and FAQ should be a valuabel tool. You are indeed the man!
