So I have a female friend who just went through a messy break up with her crazy bf and she's wondering if theirs a way to find out if he put some sort of tracking device on her car. lol I know it sounds crazy but the guy was pretty crazy and when they broke up he basically stole her car for a day before returning it to her (the car is in her name, not his).

Aside from doing a thorough search of the vehicle, I don't believe there is any other way without spending cash on a device that can find a GPS frequency.

Swap cars. If he runs across you "accidentally" all too often you'll know what's up.

He could have used this...
GPS VEHICLE LOGGER
Track your spouse, track your wife, track your husband, track your boyfriend, track your girlfriend, track your employees!
The GPS-4 Miniature Self-Contained Weatherproof Motion-Activated Magnetic-Mount Battery-Powered GPS Car Tracker provides up to 30 hours of motion-activated (no battery drain when vehicle stationary) GPS car tracking on 2 AAA alkaline batteries.

SHIFT_COUPE is partially right. The cheapest way to find a device is to conduct a through search. You could buy a bug detector, but it's $249.00.
GPS BUG DETECTOR
Our miniature professional grade GPS-RFD1 GPS Bug Detector allows you to detect and locate audio bugs, hidden wireless video cameras, telephone bugs and any real-time GPS vehicle tracker.
