Well, I finally made it out to the track last friday. It was my first time ever being out there. I had a lot of fun, but was kinda disappointed with my times. Once I got used to the how the lights worked and all, I ran consistent 16.1s with a .2 second reaction time. I was expecting mid to high 15s with my setup, which is mostly stock. (see sig). I had excellent launches... no bogging down, no burnouts (a little chirp, but thats all), just clean acceleration all the way down the track. I took out all the needless heavy stuff (I didn't go crazy though) and I always run 93 octane. What kinda sucked was that there were the real dragsters with the 24 inch slicks and wheelie bars running 8s. I mean, it was cool, but you pull up to the line against one of those and you know you're going to lose. The first car I raced was a blue Camaro that finished before I got to the 1/8th mile mark. I got stoked cuz I beat him off the line, but he was just spinning tires for a second. lol

I have a few pics at:http://www.livejournal.com/use...utid1

Yes, it's my LJ. Yes that makes me gay. I know.

I guess what I want to know is... What else can I do to my car? I don't have the money to go turbo or to do an engine swap. I'm planning on gutting the cat. conv. Is that really even worth the trouble though? I'm not really looking for "bargain speed," I just want to know if there's anything that's not gonna cost thousands of dollars. Anyway, enjoy the pics... and thanks in advance for any info.

-EDIT-BTW... the car in the last picture (which is hard to see because of our blinding speed, and my wifes inability to zoom which causes the camera to focus on closer objects) is a V8 firebird who I beat by .001 seconds.

thats a decent time for a ka24e. lots of de's are getting around there or just a tad faster. i wouldnt bother gutting the cat. looks fun though, i want to go to the track sometime but i dont want to embarrass myself by sucking bad or something since ive never raced.

It was awesome. I always heard that egos were a real big problem, but I didn't notice it. Of course, most of the guys with the huge egos got shut down by 9 second muscle cars that night, so they couldn't really say much. HAHA... But really though, there was a diesel F250, an old suburban that ran 21s, lots of cars that you would probably beat, no matter what you had. Hell, there was a geo storm out there. I couldn't see what he ran, but its a geo. You should definately go at least once. It's so much fun.

I dont think that stock cars have any place on a strip like that. I dont have a huge ego or anything, but it would seem silly to me going without any real performance.

Sorry I dont mean to rain on your parade here, I would rather go and leave the stock car behind. Some of the setups I have seen at local tracks are absolutely mind blowing. Twin turbo V8's?!? A custom FMIC the size and thickness of a person? Good lord! 1000hp is way too much for anyone.

Thats decent for a SOHC. Intake, header and exhaust wont make alot of extra hp butstill a decent time.

I don't understand why you think that stock cars don't belong at the strip. Going to the track and racing with your friends is a legitimate way to spend a night on the weekend. It's way better than ripping through town on a Friday/Saturday night. You can chill between runs, you dont have to worry about other traffic and you get your time slips to see if you are actually improving or just full of yourself. How about the muscle cars of the late 60's, do they not belong at the track in stock form?

i agree with fire_head57.

either way i too took my stock 240 to a 8th mile:P(sux for me, the quarter mile is bout an hour away and i dunno the open/close times / days), i ran a best of 10.5 @ some ~65mph i believe(member this is 8th mile).

there's usually other stock cars and even an old 4 door boat(long car, believe it was cadillac, the dude has gone there many times) that had the rear mounting for bicycles, there were diesels too.

Just to go and have fun, what better reason is there? Most major tracks have nights like that, where nearly anyone can play.

Oh, and try out SCCA autocross, I recommend that. There is a class just for stock cars (240SX is G-Stock last I checked, with LS Integras, 4cyl Accords, pre 05 V6 Mustangs, Taurus SHO's, pretty much everything)
