Hi.

I booked a track day on April 1st and am looking into getting some new rubber. I can't really afford new wheels (rims for some) right now, but I could buy a set of Hoosier R6/A6 or Toyo R888s, front and rear. So I would be putting them on the OEM wheel. I have the Touring v2 18" wheels on a 35 anniversary model (not sure, it's the REV-UP engine anyway) Roadster 6MT (brembo brakes, leather, so on).

My question is, would 245/40/R18 fronts and 275/35/R18 rears fit on the OEM wheel? The OEM wheel sizes are 18x8 front and 18x8.5 rear.

Finally, when I save up enough money, I think I'm going to go with the Volk CE28N 18" wheels. I used the following InjectedPerformance Blog listing to decide. The Volk CE28N wheels are the lightest 18" that I could find.

I'm no help on fitment bti the tires you mentioned, the A6 is an autocross compound tire and might not last the day in a track situation, the R6 is the road race coumpound and is available in differetn compounds t suit your needs, but is a ful slick and would last for only 1 or 2 events, the toyo, is available in full tread depth to help you get some miles out of it and has enough tread that driving on them to and from is an option

I know. I am getting the R6. I want a full slick and am looking to go to and from just one single event (one day of driving) and then scrapping them.

But no help on the wheel fitment? Noone.

245 will fit an 8” wheel just fineI'd think about going a 255 front275 on an 8.5 is fine.If you're roadracing, scrap the A6's those will last a track day and maybe another half.R6's will surprisingly give you 4 maybe 5 trackdays depending how bad you beat them up. The best way to save your tires besides driving slow, is getting an alignment. If you get Toyo's get them shaved. They'll last longer and have better grip.Check private classifieds for wheels, people are literally dumping prices on wheels right now. I just bought a set of 18x8.5s with Toyo tires, shipped $1200

Do you have to hi jack every thread here. No one cares what you say you're going to run. Stop hi jacking other peoples threads.Do not post unless you have credible knowledge in the OP's subject

Your stock wheel will fit the tire sizes you want but barely especially the rear where you want to put a 275. That is the max an 8.5 can go, but there are a few problems with that. The most important is that you will be stretching you side wall as far as it can go and it will bulg out. This could be a problem on the track because your side walls will have no room to flex, which could damage them under g forces and cause you to slide more which will take away form your lap times. The second problem is that whoever you have mount those tire is going to hate your life because it will be extremely difficult.I have 8.5 in the front of my car and I am running a 265 right now and I feel that, that is even to wide. I am going to go down to a 255 especially since its my fronts, where i want to room to flex. If you ask me and take into account that you want the widest tires possible. I would go with a 265 rear and 245 front if your gonna get the slicks. If not do 235 front. As far as tires go, if you want them to last long try bridgestone R1R. They have good grib when warmed up and the last almost forever. I have a set that has been through 4 track days with me and maybe one more. No other tire has survived that long with me. If you want slick try the Hoosier GT Cups they are extremely sticky but they last max 2 track days and they are usually on sale for $195 at the hoosier website but there sizes are limited. Hope this helps you. There is 3 years of track experience behind this advice.

Thanks for the advice guys.

350Engineer, I also thought that 275 on an 8.5 is pushing it, but Hoosier doesn't make the R6 in 265 guise. Here are the sizes Hoosier does on the R6 for 18" wheels:

225/40ZR18245/35ZR18245/40ZR18255/40ZR18275/35ZR18285/30ZR18295/30ZR18315/30ZR18335/30ZR18345/35ZR18

So what should I get for the front & rear on the Touring v2 OEM wheels?

spitalul2bad, how much track experience do you have? This might not apply to you depending on the amount of experience you have, but I always recommend beginning drivers to not run on anything other then street tires. It really forces you to learn how to drive on a track and makes future tire upgrades more useful for increasing lap times. If you've had some good track experience then please disregard my comments.

Well if those are the sizes ur better off with the 255 in the rear. As for the front it up to you if you want the 245 or 225. Either will work fine. If your concerned about contact patch and thats why you want to go big, it would be a wiser choice to get a full corner balance and aligement. That will give you a better contact patch then 10mm or 20mm wider tire. Which ever size you choose make sure that the sidewalls match (both 40z or 35z). If you make the difference in sidewall between front and back to large, your ABS will not function correctly. Let me know if you have any other questions especially if you decide to do the corner balance and alignment.

@digdug - Unfortunately I don't have that much track experience, especially with the Z.

@350Engineer - I would love to get balance and alignment done, however, I won't pay for it unless I get new rubber. Doing it on the old (and pretty worn) Bridgestones isn't worth it.

I finally got a quote on two 245/40/R18 and two 275/35/R18 hoosier R6 tires and it's about $2000. That's insane! $2000 for tires is too much! Shipping to Europe is pretty darn expensive, and tires cost more since they're heavy.

So I guess I'll be going in the OEM Bridgestone tires and saving up for the lightweight Volks CE28N and some road-legal R888s.

You should go on ebay and buy a set of used Pirelli Rosso. There the best street tire you can get and Iv seen them for sale in the EbayUk. New there like 400-500 each but you can get a good set with 90% thread for 350-400 shipped.

I promise you that you'll become a better track driver if you stick to the OEM Bridgestone tires for now. I did it backwards and started off on Advan AO32Rs. Switching to street tires made a huge difference in how I learned to drive the track.

Good luck!
