TPS whats the symptoms of a bad one?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

ok i have a bad tps or so my ecu tells me, will this cause a significant loss of power, and also ive been told about the coolant temp sensor could this also give me the power ive been loosing. im getting ready to start autox and i need the motor to run its best. help me out guys/girls. oh yeah its a ka24de.

if your ecu says its bad, replace it. if you suspect the coolant temp sensor replace it. you can replace both yourself for under $100.

both would cause performance problems if they would even let the car start(extreme) the tps can send erratic throttle positions to the ecu so it doesnt know if you are in the throttle or not. the coolant temp sensor can dump fuel into the engine if it thinks its too cold or not enough. had a GA16 come into work the other day flooding the motor with fuel and it wouldnt even start, coolant temp sensor was bad. so if it worrys you that much, replace both.

wow i may have to replace my coolant temp sensor too cuz i have problems on cold starts lately i gotta rev engine till it starts, warm starts i have no problems at all.

if you can get your hands on a dso it would be great to test the tps, instead of a normal dvom. basically with KOEO backprobe to tps signal and a good ground. then move the throttle. it should read 4.5v @ wot not over the 5v ref. and it shouldnt read 0v when sitting/closed, atleast .5v or was it 1v. but to find drop/dead spot you need a dso to see it easier then a dvom.

Hit the junkyard or ebay for a tps, and the dealership for the temp sensor ey?

pen pen i do love you, i bought the tps at napa for 40.95$ yeah i know cheep i havent put it on yet dont really understand how to tune it, do you just put it on and move it around like a dizzy or what? lil help pleeeez?
