I was wondering if anyone has ever taken the tps sensors from the stock tires and used them with after market wheels and tires, the reason is i think im going to be getting some different wheels soon but would love to keep that feature insted of having that part of my on board computer screen stay blank. So is there any way to carry over the old sensors from the OEM tires and put them in new aftermarket ones? Does anyone have any experience with anything like this?

it's common practice, any decent wheel and tire shop can handle swapping the sensors over, I believe it's illeagle to put wheels without them on a car that came with them

I think i read some where on here that once you switch the tps sensors to your new wheels you need to get the recalibrated by the dealership is this true???? My new wheels should be here next mon and i wanna switch em over to my new wheels. Thanks

I wouldn't think so as the TPMS simply measures pressure. Unless you replace the sensors, they should remain "synced" to your car.

Bear in mind that not all wheels may work with the TPMS sensors. It chould become more and more common practice that they do as new wheel designs are released, but I'm sure there are still wheels out there that might not work.

yea its called TPMS (tire pressure monitor system)..im a wheel and tire tech at a custom wheel shop..it isnt illegal to not have them if your vehicle is equiped with them..most people have to go back to the dealership to reset the system, but i have the tool to do it myself at my shop...its simple, either swap them out and not have a "check tire monitor system"light or just learn to live with the light on and a chime here and there

Yeah i would take them off and just do what i do. The old school way, get off my lazy *** and check it with a tire pressure gauge every time i get the SOB out of the garage.
