i was trying to set my timing today and i first ran the car until it was at full operating temperature then shut the car off and unplugged both plugs for the tps then started the car up and the idle wont come down from 2500 rpm's. i tried to lower it by the idle adjusment screw but that wouldnt move it. the weird thing is that my safcII displayed the throttle % and 100% with it unplugged. wth is going on with this. this is the same prob i have had since i got the car. after it is warm and i start it again the rpm's will go from 1500 to 2000 about 10 times. i dont know what is going on here so any help is good help.

the idle will be higher with the tps unpluged, i did the same thing once and forgot to plug them back in and it stayed around 2k. plug them back in and you should be good to go

you have to leave the tps disconnected to set the base timing. you hsould be able to lower the idel to 750rpm then set the timing. i should not stay at 100% throttle with the tps disconnected. anyone else got any info.

its not acually at 100% throttle, but it simulates that reading when it is disconnected, which is why your safc is showing that it is at 100%

and the way ive always done it, is disconnect the tps and adjust the idle, then reconnect it and see where im at. if i need to go up or down anymore, i disconnect it again and change it a little more.

Don't mind me, just passing by..

Check the air regulator unit. It's located on the passenger side of the engine, below the intake manifold, near the rear. There's a hose connecting to it. Pinch the hose when you are having the high idle condition. If the idle speed drops, there's a problem with the unit. Also check the electrical ground connections on the engine for looseness and oxidation.

Another thing to check for is an air intake leak somewhere along the intake plenum between the Air Flow Meter and the Throttle Valve. Check all the nuts for tightness that fasten the intake system to the engine.
