Hi, I was having high idle problems so I decided to check the volts and ohms of my TPS and then adjust it. I do not have a digital meter so I am using a $9.99 tiny meter from Rat Shack.
Completely released - 2.5 KPartially released - 2.5k - 8kCompletely depressed 8 k I think I am OK but the completely depressed will only go to 8 and not reach 10 like it should. Is that a good enough reason to replace it?
Now adjusting it was a joke because I could not get a good reading on the small scale so I decided to asjust it with a RPM meter to try to get my RPM's down from 1500. The only way they would drop down to 750 is if I held the TPS and turned it all the way to the left. If I would move it a little to the right I would hear like a tap sound and the RPM's would climb to 1500. So I bolted it down in this position that looks like it is not on even. I used the instructions posted here to do the tests and to adjust the TPS.
Took the car out and the idle is PERFECT. Stays around 700 and jumps to 950 with AC on. This might be all in my head but it seems like the car does not pull as hard now with the TPS in the new position and also getting out of 1st feels different.
Is it rare to have a TPS turned all the way in one direction and not in the center? Should I just replace the thing because that must be the reason I had the high Idle? I wonder what that tap like sound is when I move it to the right and then the idle climbs to 1500.
Any thoughts?
