Post

Hey guys, first post here. I'm attempting to do my first swap with my pals, an RB20DET into a 92 240sx, so this will probably be the first of many questions. I'm getting an error code 43 on my ECU. Would an incorrect setting on the TPS cause this error or is it time to get a new TPS? I've gotten the car to start and it seems to idle o.k. but when I test drove it, I went to shift from first to second and the car stalls out and I get a nice cloud of black smoke. Was wondering if that had anything to do with the TPS error I'm getting in my ECU. Any input is very much appreciated, since I'm just learning. Thanks

do you have an elictrical meter? you can actually test the tps. post if you have one or get one and I (or someone else) will instruct you on how to test it. I have an rb20det s14 and a kae s13. my ka crate motors tps was way off. its very easy to check. I got my elec meter at wal mart for like 19 bucks, and it has payed for itself many times over.

Yes, my dad has an electric meter and was a licensed electrician so hopefully, he'll be able to translate any complicated intructions that I don't understand. I've done some searching and I've found some instructions on testing it. But I wasn't sure if a bad TPS would cause my car to act in such a way. I guess starting from scratch, it can't hurt to check it out! So confirm this, just to make sure I got it right: You have your key in the 'on' position and you don't want to check the wires on the plug that directly connects to the TPS but the plug right before it? And colors for the wires I need to look for? I guess a full set of instructions wouldn't hurt if someone was willing. I sure would appreciate it.

sounds like you got your info right, so far. next, ground the negative probe and insert the red probe into the connector so it is in contact with the middle white wire. it should read no less than .40 closed and around 5.0 at wot. you adjust it by loosening the two screws and slightly rotating it. remeber, when you tighten it, it tends to change your adjustment a tiny bit. hope that helps!!
