Situation:
replaced my Nissan TPMS sensors with aftermarket set same time i replaced my tires. It took about a month for the sensors to start working but every third or four start I would get the hazard lights flashing 3-4 flashes and then the tire pressures would register on the display.

Bought new sensors because the dealer told me that the sensors were not an oem sensors. So after a few phone calls to the supplier they sent me a new set. New set installed and they worked great for a day then the system failed to read the sensors.

Now I have my winter rims and tires on the car with the original Nissan sensors and the tpms light is on continuously - flashes every second or so.

Independant tire shop tired to rest set the system and they said that the sensors were good and that the car will not accept the new/old sensors.

Nissan is stumped and can not fix this- anyone come across a similar situation?

If these were the original sensors, it means they are about sevens years old. The batteries in the sensors are probably getting weak leading to poor signals. A diagnostic tool that supports the tpms protocol should be able to highlight the problem.

what amazes me about these TPMS sensors is that new from the dealership, they cost damn near the same price as a brand new tire.

I will eventually have to pony up and buy 4 for my 2nd wheel set. Lol, I'm def. not looking forward to that.

BTW, does anyone know if new TPMS sensors are plug and play or do they have to be synced by the dealer at the time of install?

They have to be activated (synced). In other words, they have to be learned to the tpms control module. If your sensors are not activated the tpms light blinks for a couple of seconds at start up and then goes out. Needless to say, your info display will show no reading of the tire pressure (s).

I've used aftermarket tpms sensors without issue.
Some tire shops will re-sync the sensors for no charge, I had to get that done so that the hazard light would stop flashing

Does anyone have a write up on how to install and sync the TPMS sensors? I just picked up a set for my winter set-up and I wanted to ask before I go to tire shop and shell out the $$. Thanks!
