Out of curiosity here, does anyone buy extra TPMS sensors for aftermarket wheels? If you do......

1. Are they OEM?
2. If not do you recommend a certain brand/model ?
3. If they are OEM, is it true that only the stealership can calibrate them?

I got new wheels and debating on getting TPMS sensors cause the light on the dash bugs me.

I've had really bad luck trying to program aftermarket sensors on cars that come into work. They just don't seem to be readable by the Infiniti TPMS tool. I can't say if any other tire shop can or can't program them, but I would assume they can.

I bought OEM ones for my new 20's but evidently they are for a Murano (same part number) and don't register. I have new M specific ones sitting on my desk that I need to get installed.

In theory, I believe if they are OEM the car should just pick them up after a certain period of time/miles. I didn't have to have my 19's calibrated by the dealer after they came with my tire/wheel package for my 2007. I then moved those wheels to my 2011 and the 2011 picked them up just fine. Only time I had an issue was when I bought wheels without any (so I got the Murano ones).

I got a set of 4 OEM Infiniti M56 ones for like $60 on EBay (used).

When I bought my tire / wheel package from Tire Rack, I also had them install new TPMS. They told me only the dealer can program them. Tire Rack installed the TPMS, mounted and balanced the wheels, and delivered them to my local tire shop who installed them on my car. They, too, told me they tried to program them but they failed. I took the car to the dealer and 30 minutes (and $60) later, they were working fine and have continued to work fine. These TPMS were NOT OEM, but they work just fine and I believe they charged me about $40 each for them. You may want to give Tire Rack a ting and see if they have a set that will match your car.

It seems to me that people don't realize that dealers are no longer as powerful as car manufacturers make them. Check the web, and it's awash with Consult 3 in China/Hong Kong (on eBay too). I got one early in the year for less than $150 shipped. It's given me a lot of power, independence and confidence over my car. With it, I've been able to reprogramme friends' ecms, do Idle Air Volume Learning and of course calibrate the TPMS. For the TPMS, however, you'd also need a tool to activate the sensor if it's new, and I have an aftermarket for this (Autel). It's all a worthwhile investment, and for me it's fun doing these as DIY.

Didn't realize they were so cheap! Between a Consult 3 and an FSM probably save a lot of trips to the dealer.

I talked to my friend that works at a Nissan dealership in town and he told me he should be able to do the TPMS calibrations for me. So now is the questions. Which TPMS sensors to get. trying to find one that would fit the wheels. i have since it look like the OEM ones have a shorter valve stem my wheels are old school Enkei Aegis. Any help would deeply appreciated

Only downside is the Consult 3 updates every night, so without a correct Infiniti user key, you're stuck with whatever updates the system had last.

Well the good news is, Infiniti stopped updating my car when it rolled off the assembly line in 2008 as far as I know.

You need no updates for Consult 3; maybe for Consult 3 Plus yes. Consult 3 was discontinued in 2010 and I think its updates were stretched to 2014 (v9.21).

Costee,
You mentioned this once before in a previous post. After reading that post, I looked on E-Bay, and yes, I see lot's of Consult software & hardware. I am confused as to what I need to order to have a working Consult unit. What cables, software, hardware is needed? I see some listings show a small black box with a small LCD panel. Is that the unit, or does Consult 3 work off a laptop?

I would love to see you put together a list of equipment needed, as well as the autel tool that works for our cars! Exactly what did you purchase? What else did you need to get it up & running?
Thanks

For the Consult check this site:

And for the Autel TPMS tool this:
http://www.autelonline.com/autel-maxitp ... ol_p5.html
I should add, however, that the Consult software operates with a Windows XP OS. Yes, a laptop.
For the Consult, the most import item is the VCI, which interfaces the car and the Consult software loaded into the laptop. Indeed I have been able to use the VCI with a more comprehensive Consult software that allows for key programming.
Check the sites out, and you may PM me for further details.

PS. During the weekend I got the wheels rotated and did alignment at a workshop. I then used the Consult to reprogramme the tpms and to also re-calibrate the steering angle sensor--all in less than 20 minutes. Much fun.
