hey im getting a new set of rims/tires that will be used for most of the year and my stock rims will be used for the winter months. quick question about the tpms sensors. Can i just take them off the stock wheels and put them on the new rims, and do this every time i change? Or should i buy a used set on ebay, i found one cheap? Also, does the dealer have to recalibrate the sensors to the new rims, or will they adjust automatically? And is installing the new tpms sensors hard or can it be done by myself? thanks

Yes you can switch the TPMS sensors back and forth between the wheels. Removing the TPMS is easy but you have to separate the tire from that section of the wheel, so if you are uncomfortable with properly reseating your tires you also have pay someone every time you want to switch.

If you keep the same sensors you won't have to have them recalibrated, regardless of which set of wheels they are on. At most, you may just have to perform the reset procedure if the light goes on.

If you get new sensors, you will need the dealership to pair them to your car. Thereafter, you can pay the dealership to repair every time you switch wheels or you can purchase a tool to pull and store the sensor info from your car so that you can do it yourself after the first time.

What exactly is that tool called? About how much would the dealership charge to do it?

There's a thread about the tool here and they're sold at TireRack, quick reset tool or something similar.

Dealership costs for resetting the TPMS varies. I believe someone mentioned around $70 at their place, but my local dealership for example wanted $120 so I said screw it and am just living with the TPMS light on.

OK, I'm nooby with TPMS. The guy I bought my wheels from said he already have TPMS installed, but my light still comes up. Is that what you were talking about, the recallibrate or something, or perhaps just resetting. The caps also have the Rays logo on them (the original caps that comes with all Rays/Volk wheels), so im guessing he lied about having TPMS installed on them? I don't think Rays makes any aftermarket TPMS, not that i know of. I don't know man, like i said, I'm nooby to this. Some help or info would be great.

Debating whether to spend $135 on this,http://www.tirerack.com/access...D=163

The wheels may/may not have TPMS sensors on them. The sensors are part of or screw onto the stem so the caps can be whatever and it makes no difference.

Since they are not your OEM sensors, yes you will have to have them recalibrated to your car at the dealership. Hopefully if the sensors are there, they are a model that can communicate with the Nissan tool.

The tool you linked is indeed the one that someone posted on a thread here about having. Keep in mind that that tool only pulls and stores sensor information so that you can re-upload it to your ECU later on. Thus you have to get the new sensors calibrated by the dealer, then store the info onto that device, then thereafter you can do the calibration yourself. It can not pair a new sensors on its own unless you know and manually input the sensor info.
