I'm doing great in rehabbing my 2003 M45, and it's back to running 100%...feels like I'm close to full performance. One of the last items I need are new tires, which I'm looking into now. The other issue is the TPMS warning display on the dash info screen that drives me crazy. I can't seem to post a picture here, but all sensors/tires (on the screen) are showing XX, and one is yellow indicating a flat tire. I just had the sensors read and all batteries are dead, as expected.

I'm seeing horror stories on Ebay, Amazon, and Advanced Auto with people buying all new sensors only to have them not hook up to the computer in the car. Money is very tight right now (with all the crap going on) so I'm trying to see what sensors I can buy that are inexpensive, but are still compatible with the M? I was hoping to not go much over $100, and ideally under. Does anyone have a solid recommendation? I have a coupon with Amazon, and I do get 25% off at Advance, so either one would be good....much more selection on Amazon, of course. Obviously I don't want to keep buying them and having to replace them if they don't work.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

My recommendation is to get OEM, but that'll cost ya. I'm not aware of any good aftermarket brands that explicitly work with our cars. Maybe go used? I did that and those things were good for like 3 years after.

Here is something that worked for me years ago. You can probably find the same part number for way cheaper and from more sources today.

Sadly the batteries aren't replaceable.
And if you can, buy the rubber/plastic ones instead of the OEM metallic ones. I had an issue with corrosion.
I replaced mine with some generic ones. No idea what the brand was, but Part # SE10001HP for 50 bucks each. I probably could get them cheaper but I was in a pinch as the tire shop broke 2 of them during removal. No blame, the components were seized together.

Normally I would recommend Tirerack, but the one set that I bought from them wouldn't take programming. At this point I'd be more comfortable with those generic ones with the correct part number.

I found these online, which seems to be close to OEM.

I actually used the part number from Tirerack that matched up with these....$25 per sensor. It's a roll of the dice, I know.

They'll work just fine. They'll need to be programmed to your car with a tool though.

Do most mechanics/tire shops have the tool to program a particular vehicle? I was planning on buying tires and have them delivered to my local tech shop/garage, and have him do both the tires and TPMS....obviously would like to steer clear of the dealership.

A good non-oem tool (e.g. Autel TS508) would programme most vehicles. Yes, your local tech shop might have such a tpms tool.
