Hi Everyone,

I am getting the TPMS light which flashes and then stays on after a minute. I have to say I am surprised they have lasted this long. I have been researching this and I believe they need to be reprogrammed and there is a procedure in an older post on how to do this. I'd like to know if those Youtube videos which show to use a block of wood and a jack to pop the bead will work? I know there is also a tool which you can use an impact with but that seems if you don't get it just right that you could damage your rim. I can try to call around but unless I go into the city I doubt anyone around my area will do it on the cheap.

My other option might be to get a TPMS set and reader from AliExpress for the short term until I am ready to replace the tires next year. Also to confirm, I believe the OEM sensors are SCHRADER 29166 Programmed; Adjustable Metal Valve (Clamp-In). Is this correct? I would order them from RockAuto.

Thanks,
Nick

The blinking means there's a malfunction in the system other than a low tire. There will be codes in the BCM for exactly what the problem is, but you need a code reader that's TPMS-capable. However, on a car that old, the issue is almost certainly dead batteries in one or more of the sensors. Reprogramming won't help that.

Sorry I may have misspoken, I was referring to after I replace the sensors that they need to be re-programmed (not auto programmed).

Also does the 2x4 with the car jack method work or will that damage the tire?

You only need to break the top bead to replace a sensor, there's no need to completely separate the tire from the rim. So yes, there are a number of DIY methods to bust a bead and that's a common one which works fine.
