I have just recently bought a 2007 M35x. Two days after buying it, I got the dreaded ** for the left front wheel tire pressure. I called a local Infiniti dealer about it since I bought the car from an non-Nissan/Infiniti dealership. They told me it was most likely a bad sensor/monitor. I have searched through multiple threads here and I'm not quite sure I got the answer I wanted. My question is, can the sensor be replaced by any tire dealer/shop or is it neccessary to go to the dealership and pay the $250 they want to do it. I realize the sensor can be obtained outside the dealership but what about re-setting the computer? I've driven the car at highway speed for more than 45 minutes several times a day for several days and it has not re-set itself so I am convinced it is time to replace the sensor. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Resetting the computer can only be done by Infiniti I believe.

I just bought new tires and wheels from Tirerack and had them install the new sensors. Infiniti took $55 or so to sync the sensors to my car.

If you want, I can sell you my OEM ones (functioning) once I get them out of the OEM wheels (which are bent).

I had the exact same thing. I took it to the dealer and they changed it. I have warranty so that covered it for me. But it is def the sensor. And I believe the dealer is the only one to program it

Do you have an Infiniti warranty? They don't consider the sensor to be a "wear & tear" item?

I was wondering if the location of these sensors is near the wheel and if the acid the car wash uses when they spray the wheels can cause them to fail?

Can someone tell me what they look like and where they are so I can inspect and get back to group on this? Or do you need to pull the wheels to inspect?

the tpms is your valve. that big aluminum piece where you add air. it looks like you can take it off with a wrench though i don't know if that's the right way to do it. i believe the going rate is about 100 for 4 sensors.

They actually are attached to the inside of the valve stem. Wheel acid, road salt, and other environmental hazards can make the stem fragile. A missing valve cap can cause this the core to seize in the stem which may require replacement.

As an Infiniti technician I hate these sensors as much as you all do...but the government requires them, and they do sort of work. :tisk:

Programming is not required to be done by the dealer...however the 2006 and 2007 Ms have a separate control unit, unlike most other vehicles out there use logic within the vehicles body control module. Many tire shops have an aftermarket program that has the ability to ping and register new sensors but they have been known to not reset on the older Ms due to incompatible communication.

I do have a dealer warranty and I don't think it is because they replaced it. All I had to pay was the deductible

These TPMS units have a battery that is sealed in the unit and can not be replaced. Auto manufactures estimate that the units will last from 5 to 7 years before replacement is required. So get ready for each of these units crapping out as are autos age.

It's time to buy some stock in one of these copmpanies that manufactores these units.
