On the '06 M, when the tires are rotated do the TPMS units need to be changed out so they stay calibrated front-rear, left-right. Or can they be moved from their original position w/the whole wheel but still show up on the monitor in the right position?

You can move them around without any problem, but the tire pressure reading will not come out until you have drive the car for 10-15 min.

In case you do have an issue, just unplug the battery for 30 sec. and reconnect them and you are ready to go - refer to the above paragraph.

Whoa! If you unplug the battery you lose all your memory et al. settings. Are you sure that is a good idea? What do you mean: "refer to the above paragraph?"

You know what James I will be perfectly honest with you, according to Infiniti the system used in the 06+M is supposed to learn the new position of the transponder. In actuality it does not usually. Most dealers automatically register them when the tires are rotated, and once the vehicle is driven at speed the system should register the current pressure. If the wheels are swapped with another set they will need to be programmed.

This topic comes up every once and a while and can actually get surprisingly heated, yes many people will notice that their sensors re register then there are those who have driven a several hundred miles of highway driving and still showing XX.

The reasoning for this has to do with the newest positioning display used in the 06+M. I cannot argue for the or against the system itself, it works when it works well and when it is out then...

Yes, the car will lose most memory if you unplug the battery - so does the previous tire location, thus it will re-learn where they are as it is after the rotation. This should be your last solution though.

When I say "refer to the above paragraph", I meant the first paragraph from my post - After re-connect the battery, drive the car for 10-15 min.

I had my tires rotated on my 2006 M35. As specified in the manual i drove over 25mph for 10 minutes. After 10 min and 30 seconds two of the 4 registered...and within another 30 sec the other two registered. So my car did exactly what the manual said it would do.

DO you have a DISCOUNT Tire nearby? They have a nifty device that, for lack of a better description, looks kind of like a "stud Finder". They will look up your tear/make/model of car, enter a code on this handheld device, then place it next to each valve stem, press another button and wait for a beep. At that point, that wheels TPMS sensor has been reset.

Every time Discount rotates my Avid W4s, they do this automatically. It ALWAYS works and within a mile or two I have accurate readings at all 4 wheels.

I'd check it out; they'll do it for free as "good will" customer service.

I've seen the Snap On guy peddling that all make/model TPM registering tool. It works on some models I assume but ANTZRUS has an 06 M that uses a position display on the AV monitor whereas the 03 uses 4 horizontal lines with readings and no direct position location (unless you have read the manual). These will usually (99% of the time) register automatically although the position maybe off depending on how the tires are rotated. Your EX doesn't have active display of current pressures for some reason, even Chrysler has that function.
