I just picked up a set of the 19" Maxima NISMO wheels on the cheap. I'm in PA, so will likely be swapping out for the stocks in the winters. As I see it, my options would be:
1) Get another set of TPMS sensors for the new wheels, pay the stealership an exorbitantly high rate to wave a wand for a few minutes twice a year.
2) Pull my TPMS sensors from my stock set, install on the new wheels. This will get me the "most" coverage out of a single set as I should only need to run the stocks for a few months of the year. This would still require a one-time reset, as well as additional charge for pulling the sensors, re-mounting and balance the stock tires.
3) Get a new set of TPMS sensors to install on the new wheels, have it reset to the new ones, but don't worry about reseting for the stocks during the winters. That will avoid the hassle and potential damage in removing the existing ones, which might be worth it if the sensors can be found for a reasonable price.
4) Don't worry about TPMS on the new wheels.
I would initially be inclined to go with 4), except that at 3k miles I picked up a nail and was alerted to the slow leak by TPMS. OTOH, I also got a false positive last week, presumably due to the change to cold weather, which I couldn't clear until I first overinflated the tires.
General opinions here? What are the dealerships charging for the reset each time?
In the event that I do get another set, anyone have the part number and sources to purchase - preferably discounted from the dealership list price, of course. Ebay is always an option, of course, but a bit leery of getting these used, installing them, only to find out one or more is bad.
