I purchased new rims and tires with new TPMS's, I then had America's Tire Company reprogram the car's comp to read the new TPMS's. Last week I needed to get my rims refinished due to curb rash so i put my stocks back on with the original TPMS sensors. I was on my way to get them re synced at the tire shop when i decided to see if by chance they were working. To my surprise they were actually being read by the cars computer already! Does anyone know if the cars comp has the ability to store TPMS info from previous rims? My only conclusion is that when i brought my car into the dealer the other day for some warranty work, they synced the sensors without me telling them to.

The TPMS sensors will sync themselves after driving for X amount of time. Usually its 15+ minutes at highway speeds but it seems to vary slightly. I doubt the dealership did anything without being asked and surely not without charging you for it as they usually charge for this service if people dont want to wait for them to sync on their own. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply but i was actually wondering if the cars computer stored the info from the old TPMS sensors since the car was currently programmed for the new TPMS sensors. I was under the assumption that the new TPMS sensors code overrode the old sensor codes.

well a sensor is a sensor. Your car will pick up whatever sensor is currently on them as you drive. The old and the new sensors are the exact same and just send the signal to the car to read the tire pressure. The computer doesnt store anything, its a real time read so if put on tires with no TPMS it will read XXX but if you put back on the tires with the TPMS in them it will calibrate itself again after driving for a while. Theres nothing special they do at the dealership when they reprogram them, they usually wave some wand thing and it resets it in about 2 seconds and then they charge you for it. Am I still missing what you are asking? sorry if so

*To clarify, you dont just have one set of sensors programmed to your car. I could put my wheel and tire on your car with my TPMS and it would read it after you drove for long enough. Many people do this with their winter and summer wheels and just run TPMS in both and the car will read them both without storing anything.

Thanks for the clarification, the dealer made me believe they had to hook up the car to their computer system so that they can program/ sync any new TPMS sensors. With this they would charge me $125 and would take an hour!!! That is why i didn't go to them for this service and instead i went to the tire shop and they did it in less than 5 min with their scanner tool and they did it for free!
