Getting ready to install my 22's next week, was wondering if ALL you guys with after market wheels removed your TPMS on to the new wheels or it just doesnt matter or not really important.

As you mention, you can move the sensors to the new wheels ...

If you are a methodical pressure checker (like I am), then having sensors is not particularly important. However, it is a simple way to see if there is something fundamentally wrong - like you have a nail or something.

Plus, I think there is a move afoot to Fed mandate it on newer cars, so if you have it from the factory, I'd suggest using it. To CYA in our litigious society.

IIRC it is a federal law that all new vehicles have to have TPMS...I could be wrong though.

It's not super important...though I don't know if you would want the stupid light on for the rest of your car's life...

I think you are right about the federal law.

I yanked mine with the quickness once they started becoming a pain. They didnt read accurately(sp) , so they had to go. I didnt get to much hassle from the tire guys.

Questions about your new rims... Where are the valve stem holes located? Inside the lip, behind the spokes or built into the rivet area?

I drive a pre-TPMS vehicle, but the federal requirements were discussed by Pat Goss, the resident expert on the PBS "Motorweek" TV show, a year or two ago. Not only is TPMS mandatoy factory equipment after the effective date, but disabling it is a federal offense. (Shades of the mandates about emissions equipment.) Since TPMS is now a federal "safety" item, an inoperative TPMS will also cause the car to fail inspection. Goss said that TPMS sensors in or on the tires--there are apparently two types--are EXTREMELY easy to damage when changing/installing tires on rims. BTW even cars that had "voluntary" factory TPMS before the mandatory deadline will fail inspection if their TPMS is inoperative. (Not so for after-market.) Your federal tax dollars--and Nanny NHTSA-- at work.

Here we go again with the stupid TPMS. I understand keeping them if they were worthy devices BUT they give wrong readings, sometimes give no reading, dont work correctly in COLD weather ( I live in washington) , need to be reset alot and did i mention suck.

I removed mine months ago when i put the 22's on and forgot they even came with the vehicle.

I would have left them on if they had a properly functioning HASSLE-FREE version. Not something i gotta always worry about taking into the dealer. I bet Lexus has a better one.

I dont care too much for em too much, just didnt want to have a tire pressure warning light ON in the dash, unless there is a program that can be done on the car to disable that light which I doubt...
