Is there a way to completely disconnect the TPMS system so you don't have to worry about it breaking?

Second time mine has broken and i don't care enough about it to have it fixed. Plus they keep the car for at least a day each time

I'm tired of staring at this (_!_). YES thats what the light looks like to me!!

If you disconnect your TPMS sensors from your tires you will see the (_!_) light all the time, I don't think there is any way to completely disable it.

It is actually illegal to disable, or modify the system. The dealer is required to repair the system if it is truly defective. By the way, what is the production date on your car? They seem to have fixed the problem after November of 2006.

i know the dealers can flash the ecu, to turn it off. If i get rims, i want to go do that, since the TPMS senors are no longer there. >_< and since my car was built before 07, it shouldnt be in the mandate. :P or that the rational i am using.

I may be wrong, but since the TPMS is factory-installed safety equipment, it is required to be functional in the same sense that the airbag system must be functional in order for the vehicle to pass inspection. In the case of wheel swapping, I'm not sure what they would require you to do... but if your vehicle is stock, and under warranty, it is your right to get the situation taken care of. Disabling the system will only reduce the resale value of your car, and you will lose a valuable tool. Did your system outright fail, or is it giving legitimate low pressure indications? my TPMS system saved me... TWICE! The light came on just as I was pulling out of my driveway one morning, so I checked the pressure... it was just a bit low. Turns out, I had a nail in the tire. Had I not known the pressure was low, I would've run the risk of ruining a perfectly good tire by driving underinflated, getting into an accident on the highway, or worse. This happed a month later, same tire, different nail. Disabling the system is no better than putting electrical tape over an engine light on a car that is still under warranty. There is a problem, and they must fix it. Your one-year warranty is almost up, and since this is not the first failure of the system, they MUST fix it.

Besides that, there is also a TSB out on early production Versas that experience TPMS failures. Don't let the dealer just "reset it" because that won't fix the problem.

The reason it happens over and over is either a failed wheel sensor, or a bad BCM. Usually the latter.

And Bishop... it's only a 1 year warranty if your name is kc5f.

It's part of the 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

They replaced my BCM the first time and kept my car for 2 days, 1 to diagnose, and one to fix. I'm a full time student and work full time as well. Its tough to find rides to get to where i need to be.

I agree with the loss of resale value if i disconnect but in texas if your airbags don't work thats your problem. Not part of any inspections and niether is the TPMS system. In texas at least.

My friend rolls around in his civic with the SRS lights always on.

NH is pretty relaxed as well... we don't require titles for vehicles over 15 years old, and as long as the duct tape holding the two halves of the car together is in good condition, it's not a problem.

Don't forget, even if all of the tires are above approx. 25psi (typical alert level), if there is a difference of about 3-5psi between any 2 tires, you will also get the warning.

I was towing a trailer and had the rear end loaded this summer, I kept the rear tires about 2 psi higher. After driving for a few hours and the outside air temp increased, the pressure difference increased to about 4psi and the TPMS light came on.

A system that corrects for air temperature and displays the actual pressure is much better, but more expensive and only offered on luxury vehicles. My motorcycle has this, but it cost $5000 more than my car, for 2 less wheels.

They should have given you a loaner car. If you're back in there again don't let them even glance sideways at your car without getting you set up with a rental.

Nissan does not reimburse dealers for rentals or loaners, so any dealer that gives one out does so at their own expense. Hence they "should" do nothing. Larger dealerships tend to have a few courtesy loaners on hand because they can absorb the cost of taking a new car off their lot, running it for 20k miles, and then selling it as a discounted used car at the end of the year. Not all dealerships are so fortunate.

Of the 7 Nissan dealerships in my area, only 1 offers courtesy loaners.

That tool will reset, but not disable, the TPMS.

The mandated system in the 2008 cannot be disabled. But for those who still hold out hope that the system in 2007 can be "because it's not mandated", I wouldn't hold your breath. It would cost Nissan far more to design and program a BCM for just 2007 that CAN be disabled than it would be for them to desing and program a non-disabling system for 2007 and carry it over into later years.

It looks like this just resets it not disabling it.

Thanks anyway.
