Hey folks and here is my first question for the forum.

I was recently inflating my tires and I noticed that the pin in the valve stem on one of my tires was stuck. I thought it was stuck because the temperature was freezing cold so I decided to check on it the next afternoon when it was above freezing.

So the very next afternoon, I depress the pin and a whole bunch air comes out. I let go and the air is still coming out the valve. So, there is something definitely wrong with the valve and I have to replace it.

Now, here is my question (and I'm hoping I get a good answer). I'm sure you guys know that the 07 comes equipped with a TPMS. According to the Service Manual , the valve stem is integrated with the TPMS, which means I can't simply just deflate the tire, pull out the TPMS and replace the valve; I will have to drive out to the dealer and have them replace the transmitter for that tire under warranty.

So, can anyone tell me whether or not the TPMS and the valve stem is one piece?

To the best of my knowledge and what i've seen, they are not one piece, but they work together. You should be able to take it to a Midas or somewhere at get it replaced for no more than $5.

I'm not familiar with Nissan's specifically yet most "stems" are integrated with the sensor.

HOWEVER,,, as stated, I'm not specifically familiar with the Nissan's/2007's yet can't you just unscrew the "valve" from the "stem" and replace that 10 cent valve in your driveway?? I can't believe they would make the valve non-serviceable itself??

Typically just takes a small slotted "valve stem removal" tool. Unscrew old and screw in the new - fill tire to proper pressure.... Just like any other valve/stem etc..

Good luck.

Happy Turkey day!!

So after hours of researching myself and finding the name of the company that develops the TPMS for the 2007 Murano (and for a lot of the cars in the American market), the valve stem, unfortunately, is integrated with the TPMS transmitter itself. If the battery dies, you need to replace the unit. If the valve stem is not working properly, you need to replace it, etc etc.

Fortunately, my warranty covered for the replacement, but for those who's don't, it is expensive as hell to replace (it ranges from $80 to $100). Even if you were to replace the transmitter(s) yourself, you would still need to purchase an Test & Learn tool for about $300 to have the new transmitters assigned to your car or go to a Nissan dealership and have it done there.

Hope this post helps de-mystifies some of the information about the TPMS on the 07 Murano. And here is the company's website http://www.schraderbridgeport.com/
