I was looking at new wheels on tirerack and most of them had warnings about whether the OEM/stock TPMS sensors would swap. I've seen a couple of answers on this forum to the question of whether new rims accept the sensors, and it's generally positive, but I've never seen a definitive answer.

Buying new sensors is expensive and not worth it. Is it reasonable to assume that our sensors will swap, or should I just go visit a brick & mortar shop and make sure that what I buy will work? I'm leaning toward the latter.

Most will swap but without seeing the rim or test fitting the sensors, I would say 100%. I would say anything new will probably be OK. It's the older stuff (pre-2008 when TPMS was initiated) that you will be hit or miss with.
