I noticed a lot of these new hatchbacks resemble the Versa, and the opposite is also true. (i.e. Scion xA, Saturn Astra, that Toyota, and maybe even the Honda Fit)

Yeah...there's really not a lot you can do to make a hatchback look different from model to model. I just find it very odd that Toyota is making this car with pretty much the same exact side profile and naming it a "Verso". The Verso will be bigger than the Versa because it's built on the Corolla platform and has a third row seat (for tiny, tiny people). Autoblog didn't list a price but I'm sure it will be comparible to the Matrix.

Could they have thought of a better name that Verso? That sounds too much like Versa and some people may be confused of the two. Just a thought.

Everyone needs to do just a little more Googling on this topic...

Quote »Not expected to be sold in the United States or Canada, though Latin and South American sales are a possibility, the Verso is based on the Avensis sold in Europe. Though looking much like its predecessor, the Corolla Verso, the new model is supposedly all-new.[/quote]This is a Euro-market MPV (what the Europeans call minivans and the like). The Versa name is only used in North America - and the Verso will not be sold here. The Europeans know our car as the Tiida. So at least they didn't call this the Toyota Tiido.

I agree that car naming creativity is sorely lacking but without overlap in the same market, it really is a non-issue.

And, by the way, Toyota has been using the Verso name since 1997, when it was unveiled as a Corolla-trim MPV (Corolla Verso). I think that predates Nissan's use of 'Versa' by about 7 years, right?
