Pssh...I liked it...but the only difference is that if i had one like that...i'd be taking it offroad everytime I got the chance. I wouldn't baby it as I do with my vert...I would drive it like it's meant to be driven.

I'd probably lift it a few inches higher.

i'd much rather have a pathy or a old 1985 yota(toyota) lifted 3 inches with some 33's under it

I hope my dad gets an old Toyota Tacoma or a Nissan XE instead of a Ford...those are 2 trucks i'm willing to hook up. Lift kit...33-34" inch tires...deep,loud exhausts...etc. etc.

You realize that the towing capacity is 5000lbs right? So you take a 3000 lb car and put it on a 2-2.5k trailer and you're maxed out. That would not be fun to tow around.

FYI a bud of mine just got a new chebby z51 towing package and he can't tow 7000lbs up a grade with it due to the gearing. He is fighting with chebby now because he can't tow his work trailer anymore.

yeah. i know it's right at the edge. i'm hoping to get the car weight to around 2500, and 2k for trailer. with electric brakes on the trailer it shouldn't be too bad, but i do realize it's right near the edge of being okay. i won't be towing it too often anyways.

but a v8 ridgeline would pretty much be perfect for me.

Why not just get a mid-late 90's dodge dakota with a V8?

The BTTF Toyota is hot. Always thought so.

Actually, I like the Sport Trac a lot. I'd rather have a crew cab Frontier or Tacoma, though. (Actually I'd rather have an extended cab Frontier or Taco...). Ultra-short-bed pickups never really appealed to me.

Exactly. The old 5.2 was a great light tow vehicle. And if you're lucky enough to be able to get your hands on a 5.9 Dakota...you've got yourself a little beastie. You should be able to find a 5.9 Dakota for under $15k.

I've got an S10 now, and I bought it brand new in 03. I don't like it very much, the fit and finish on the japanese makes are better than the american counter part. what i want is honda reliablity and good gas mileage.

i understand chevy and dodge are completely different maybe the dodge is better, but this chevy has left a bad taste in my mouth, so I'll go with someone I trust.

I'll be holding onto my s10 for a while though (sadly). Just window shopping pretty much.

Toyota has pretty much cornered the market on trucks that can't haul or tow anything. Show trucks...but if you are actually trying to tow anything I would highly recommend that you testdrive some american trucks. Hell my coworker's husband works for TRD and he has a fullsize chebby to tow his toybox. He had a tundra and supercharged it, and it still couldn't tow worth a bean.

Understandable...but don't judge the Dakota based on the S10.

The S10 and Ranger are the smallest of the midize trucks. The Dakota has always been the biggest midsize (always closer to the 1/2 ton full size trucks than it is to the S10 and Ranger--in fact the last-gen ranger offered the same 5.9 liter that is in my dad's Ram 1500). It's got two V8 options in addition to a V6, where the S10 has a 4 and a 6. It's a whole different world. Really, if you're buying a midsize to tow with, the old 5.9 Dakota, or the new 4.0 Frontier and Taco are about as good as it gets. The 4.0 Frontier makes GOBS of torque (298 ft lb IIRC) down low where you need it for towing. The 5.9 Dakota does too. I don't know a lot about the current Dakota's 4.7, but I doubt it can compete with the old 5.9 (I'm sure it's better than the old 5.2, though). In fact I'd be surprised if it's much (if any) better than the Nissan 4.0The Honda is a Honda. It's not going to be torquey and it's not going to have a strong low end. Those are both BAD for towing. I'm sure it's an awesome grocery getter, 4 wheeler hauler, and freeway cruiser. But it just isn't made of what it takes to be a good tow truck.

Eh, Toyota fails miserably at their Full size truck attempts, to be sure. But the Tacoma has always been right next to the Frontier at the head of the midsize truck class. Even the T100 was a good truck. At least with that one they got smart and stopped trying to convince everyone it was full size.

Even with the new Tundra the hype is "it's really a real full size this time!" Yeah...I'll believe it when it happens. And even then I'll have to pinch myself a few times before I'm completely convinced that it's real.

Ha Ha everybody seems to love the old Toyota Pickups. I have on too and I always get people trying to buy it. It's also a TRD edition. It has 31" tires on 15" wheels with a low offset. They stick out about 1/2 an inch. But anyways if you want good mpg then dont get one because they only get like 13mpg. Power kinda sucks has good low-end torque though. All in all I love my Toyota Pickup. Also if your trying to look for one their named Pickup.

A friend at work put 150k on his 4x4 2000 S10 extended cab. In that time, he had the transmission (5spd) rebuilt and a few other major repairs. He owned a late 90's Tacoma before the S10, and when he decided to replace the S10, he went right back to Toyota. He just got a 06 4x4 6spd Tacoma 4 door. That thing is pretty sweet and it wont fall apart in 5 years. It can fit him and his two sons and tow their 2 ATVs with no problem...

I never understood Toyota's inability to build a full-size truck.

It's not exactly what I'd call a fiendishly complicated engineering exercise, you figure if they can build something like the MTRC they can probably also build a better F-series. How hard is it to put together a huge diesel truck?

My big problem with them is that you couldn't get an 8 ft bed with xtra cab, and even if you did get the 8 foot standard cab, the bed was only 18" deep VS 24+ for the domestic trucks.

Ugliest truick = Chevy Silverado.. A boring box
In the past I have owned a F150 and a Silverado and my 03 Tundra Stepside out lasted them both. 240K miles and still going smooth.. My F150 was Ok and my silverado was a pile O junk. I have hauled alot with my Tundra and carried enough wood to build a 12x12 deck.. Have had several loads of concrete in it and it just keeps going. The only things I have had worked on are brakes, tires and oil.. My family and friend who bought Dodge, Ford and G.M have ALL had to replace there trucks and mine keeps going.. You can hate all the hate you want.. Best auto purchase I have ever made hands down

Holy necroposter! Thanks for searching though, LOL. Since it's up again though, my wife and I were marvelling at the ugliness of one of these just yesterday. Damn that's an ugly truck, LOL>

I like the Silverado. I like trucks that are tall and boxy.

If you want swoops and round bits, get a 1950s pickup or a Beetle.

If this thread wants to rise again, there's no sense in trying to stop it. OP has been updated with a fresh, non-broken pic of The Abomination.

I agree. I am not fond of GM's square wheel arches, but the rest I like a lot. The new Sierra is a damn fine looking truck. Certainly better than the overdone F150.

If I wanted a curvy truck, I'd get a '53 5-window or a '59 Fleetside.

Did you really search a thread from 2006 on a Nissan site to defend your Toyota by trash talking American trucks?

9 years later eh? I did love that black toyo pickup in that movie. Never came across one the stepside tundras in person, but did they come lowered like that?
