not sure if you guys mind me posting this but...could someone relate to me some toyota chaser history. I could look it up, but if any of you guys have any personal experience- or know someone who has- maybe you could tell me about its performance, handling, comfort etc. It seems pretty fast (278hp right?) and it looks a little like the skyline or just cool (only seen a few pics myself). Is it worth trying to import one or dropping the engine into a toyota model here?

I don't think its worth trying to import one here. They are pretty fast and whatnot, but its hard enough to import Skylines and other cars so that I would think it would also be too expensive to justify importing one here. I'd check some Toyota forums if you are really serious about it, I doubt there are any Chaser import experts here. Then again, maybe one will pop out of the woodworks!

I don't think there would be any way to easily to import a Chaser. It's just like importing all other Japanese cars that weren't realesed in the US, a pain in the butt. You could spend the money to import it but it could only be legally used for show or track. In Japan they are used mainly for VIP cars and drift. Unless you have drifting for awhile i would not recommend it as a car to learn to drift in. If you just want to show it and have the money to spend then go ahead, but I don't think you will be able to legally drive it on public roads.

The closest thing to a Chaser in the US is the Cressida and I think Cressidas are more like a Mark II or Cresta. The model of Chaser your talking about though has no similar US car. As for the engine i don't think it is anything that you can't get in the US. I think it is a 1JZGTE.

Here are some random pictures. I'm guessing this is the model your talking about.

they are nasty, big fat fast street battleships. they came with the 1JZ backed by an auto. The rev limiter on these is distinctive with a wet fart burrrpop! sound that you can hear a mile away. Break the mold and import one. GT-Rs are cliche get a Mark II or Chaser Tourer V, you will love it.

I thought our Lexus IS300s here in the states are the new Chasers in Japan?

yea I wasn't really serious about importing one.. but you know I'd like to see one here or something. anyway thanks for the replies. Yea, the only reason I know about it is cause I here it come up whenever drifting is mentioned.. it doesn't look light and tossable but I guess neither is the skyline. so a cressida is the closest thing to it? the only ones i ever see are ugly =P (80's i think).. and for some reason my girlfriend used to always mix it up with my park when we'd look for it in the parking lot. (pissed me off so much! .. no offense to all you cressida drivers out there hehehe)

oh yea... that blue one looks bad ***.. i love it!

I think your thinking of the SC430, which is called the Soarer in Japan. They used to have the SC300, SC400, and SC430 i think. The previous model is sometimes used for drift. The new ones, the SC430, are more just luxury cars.

I think the last year for the Cressida in the US was around 90-92. There isn't anything here that resembles the newer Chaser. If your looking for something based on looks i doubt you would want a Cressida. More than anything it would be a good sleeper or drift car. Yes, you can swap the 7M-GE for the 1JZ-GTE.

1JZ-GTE Cressida

hey guys how about the lexus LS400/430 looks a lot like a chaser to me. except it has the v8 instead of the 1JZ. the chaser is a full size car if i remember correctly.

looks like they would compete with the nissan cedric (im suprised they never put the RB in the cedric not that the VG30s were bad)

i wouldn't mind one of those nissan steagea wagons. i believe the newer models use the R34 GTR drivetrain

damn i knew you could put a 1jz in a supra cuase they offered them in japan, but i had no idea they came in cressidas to, JDM Toyotas rule, twin turbo sedans, nothing beats that, perfect sleeper

and yes the lexus SCs are based off the soarer. and JZ (both 1JZGTE and 2JZGTTE) swaps are getting popular over here(usually a 1JZ into a 5speed SC300).

if the 7MGTE will fit into the cressida then the 1JZGTE should fit also. i know that the 1JZ is darn near a drop in swap on MK3 supras. a 1JZ powered cressida could make a really interesting sleeper:D

yeah the 1jz is a bolt in other than bell housing, and throttle cables, but man when you talk about a wiring nightmare that **** takes the cake, buch of stuff you gotta do, and to have someone do the harness for you cost like $500. I wanted a Mk3 so bad but Toyotas cost to much money, but they are worth it, if you got the money

stand alone engine management system makes anything possible, I've seen a 13B in a 180SX.

i know about that. a friend of mine just picked up a MK3 supra. he got it pretty cheap. turns out the engine already has a rod knock. so hes looking into a JZ swap since his 7M is already dying

only problem with the mk3 is that its a heavy car, but all supras are on the heavy side somewhat, but they make up for it in raw power

Chaser is a pretty nice car... it looks smiliar to Mark II, but it's lots faster.... When I was in Hong Kong, lots of ppl drive that.... most of them tune up the engine very well and swap a bigger tubro.... so most of them r super fast...:icesangel
