I know this will probably void the warrantee since the owners manual says not to tow with the Versa, but shouldn't it be capable of towing a SeaDoo or a Waverunner? Do you think the V has enough underside support for a hitch? Any thoughts out there? Just researchin' here.Carl

I haven't looked under the Versa for anything like that yet (as I would use my Tucson to tow if I needed to), but I have seen towing equipment on smaller, less powerful cars that would do what you say you want to do.

Specifically, a couple early 80's Subarus (all sub-120HP, car-frame vehicles) that I have seen towing SeaDoos.

If nothing else, you can work with one of the many makers of hitches (both on the net and possibly even locally) and I'm sure they'd be glad to look into that for you.

in terms of strenght, 120 hp is more than capable of towing a sea-doo however do you really want to use a sub-compact car for that kind of a job?

I don't know what the mechanical limitations of the versa are but when I was in germany I saw tons of cars towing things. From passats pulling camper trailers to audi a4's pulling a band's trailer. For some reason here in america people think they will destroy their car if the pull anything with it. In my opinion go for it. Check with uhaul or some companys who do hitch installs and do it.

Towing is an area of concern for small car manufacturers. Often buyers will overdo the limits of the car and when it breaks they want the dealer to fix it under warrantee.....a headache for them. I looked under the car and saw place to bolt a hitch to the sub "frame", but there is a plastic shield on the passenger side opposite the muffler. Anyone know what is being protected here?

lets just put it this way, if youve ever taken physics you will know that 0.5 horsepower is all you need to get 1 average sized human past inertia. now imagine a car with 120 hp, with 4 people in the car, the weight of the car plus the sea-doo = more than enough power. of course you can over do it if you attach something bigger like a boat or trailer, but a sea-doo is no problem. i agree, in north america we have this stigma that only v8 + can tow but in europe they pull everything with small cars.

Okay, the Australians call the Versa, the Tiida. On the nissan.au website, they show a tow bar for the Versa or Tiida. Apparenty, it doesn't fit with their optional rear skirt of the hatchback. Other future accessories are seen on that site as well.

We like to camp and I thought about a little mini trailer to haul our gear. Anyone know where I could find a standard 2” receiver type hitch? I’d also like to attach my 4 bike hitch carrier to the car. Also, why does the users guide say not to tow with the versa? Will this impact my warranty?

Since a small hitch is available in Australia as seen in the site I noted in my last post, I am sure it will be available in a while but not in a 2" box hitch. Maybe it will be a mini-receiver type to haul a small trailer like the one you pictured. A bike rack would fit nicely on a receiver even if you have to use an adapter. We just have to wait for it.

What do you think about installing something like pictured below for using with a receiver style bike rack and maybe backing a jet ski into the water -- not down the road towing???

Using big bolts & big washers??
