Insurance companies look for any out, any reason not to pay up be you in the right or not, if the local guide lines is not to tow they will use that as an excuse.
Your only out is to tell the insurance company you will be towing and the max weight of the tow, if they accept that then the risk is theirs. If you are towing hit the button if you are Auto and stay out of 5th in manual if the load is near the max. In Scotland no problem you are allowed to tow the loads specified earlier. The only problem, if I can call it that, is that the tow bar must be one which has been made for the car and not one knocked up in the back shed and preferably fitted by the dealer or a reputable garage.

the Curt hitch, TOWready T-One lighting module, showed up today, and I have to say it is mighty stout. This brand hitch is a well built receiver. :dblthumb:

ok, The TowReady T one connector listed #118513 was not the correct part. After a few weeks of correspondence with etrailer to show it was wrong, they had me return the part, sent the info to the manufacturer, and sent me the correct item Curt # C56021.

The TowReady product had "white" connectors and did not match the Versa. The Versa`s tail lamp assy connectors are "brown".
The Curt replacement T one lighting module kit does have the brown connectors and appear to be correct. Will install this at a later time...

Yes,I have Drawtite hitch installed on my 2009 versa sedan (1.6L, manual, base model). I pull a 230lb boat trailer loaded with 4 kayaks, 2 bicycles and a storage box - all centered over the trailer axle. The tongue weight of my loaded trailer is 73lb. The loaded weight of the trailer and "stuff" is 785lb. This includes the 73 lb tongue weight (calculated using a luggage scale placed on the end of the trailer at the same height that it rests on my tow-ball). You must also add the tongue weight to your car's occupancy weight to make sure you don't exceed your vehicle's max GVW. Throw out the kids or the mother-in-law if you exceed the vehicle's GVW. If the tongue weight is too high, load the back of the trailer up with the MIL. :lolling:

New to the forum. But i came for one reason.
I have a 2007 HB Regular automatic.
Im currently Towing a 1993 Mazda Miata STR race car about twice a month.
towing it to 2 tracks alernating one is about 15 miles away and one is about 50 miles away.

I purchased a Hitch off ebay. The cheapest one i could find. 150$ to my door.
The install with the blind bolts was a PAIN. Looks like some nice clearence for the exhaust.

I purchased a 2 wheel tow dolly locally off craigslist for 200$.
Took it home and resprayed it with primer and paint.

I purchased a 4 pin universal harness from pep boys.
the BLACK wire to the tail lights is the ground.
the RED wire was the BRAKE.
the WHITE wire on the passenger side was the blinker.
the PURPLE wire on the drivers side was the blinker.
I pulled the drain plug under the spare poked a hole in it and fed the wires . Zip tied it to the tow strap and the hitch.

I purchased some 2 inch rachet tie downs to tie the miata down with at harbor frieght.

The VERSA has 120K miles on it. at 100 it had new plugs and a coolant flush. the transmission has been flushed at 60,90,120K miles.
I just put brake pads front and rear at about 110K miles. Hawk HPS pads. There is a K&N replacment filter in the stock box. with the front half of the box cut off. There is a transmission cooler added on to the stock one.

The miata weighs about 1960-2040Lbs depending on the wheels tires and top i run. and if i bring my air tank/wrenches/4-way with me.
the trailer i guessing is about 400Lbs.

The miata tows it JUST fine. Albiet the car is complely gutless and ball-less any ways with out a car being towed behind it. and it is even WORSE when im towing.. the brakes arent GREAT. but i dont run around towing a car like a run around with out one. go slow. plan ahead. but with the 2 wheeldolly i cant get the tounge where i want it. been doing this for 3 years now...

From what i understand is that the Nissan Versa with an aftermarket tow hitch, can tow up to 1000 pounds or 453 kilograms of cargo. However i don't recommend towing near that much due to the fact it is a four cylinder with 122hp give or take. I to have done some research because i am going to get a tow hitch kit for my Versa. I would use it to tow my brothers 2009 yamaha r6 streetbike which weights 450-500 pounds or 204-227 kilograms because it will be a pit crew/chaser car. To anwser your question, yes it can tow. How much weight is up to you, however lighter is better. a trailer that I would recommend would be something like this: http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsea ... ?q=trailer it is the trailer that has 1265 Lb. Capacity 5 ft. 8-1/4" x 3 ft. 9-1/4" Heavy Duty Trailer with Ramp Only:$399.99 Hope this helps!

Look at my trip photos at this link. You may have to move around the screen to find the four attached photos of my Versa trailering.

Yes, you can tow with a 2009 Versa sedan with a 1.6L manual transmission.

Follow all the rules about towing with a car of this size, frame and power. See your car's equivalent in the tables provided in the link.

I just finished an 1100 mile RT journey with my newly installed hitch - towing a 16.5 foot boat trailer (empty weight 220 lbs). I customized the trailer to haul up to 6 kayaks or a combination of kayaks, bicycles, ski box, fishing and boating supplies, etc.

When fully loaded the trailer and cargo weighed 650lbs. The max. tongue weight on the trailer is 75lbs. We tried to load the trailer such that the tongue weight was usually about 72 pounds. We used a hand-held luggage scale to check the tongue weight every day.

The new car hitch actually has a max. tongue weight of 200lbs, so we never got close to that (always staying below 75lbs - per the trailer specs.)

We drove an average of 71mph on the interstate highways, with no lack of power.

On state highways and county roads I downshifted at about 2400 RPM as I climbed hills. I only had to downshift to third once on the trip due to hill climbs. That was when we drove through the White Mtns and we were passing by the 6000 ft. high Mt. Washington on Hwy 2.

The car hitch frame where it dips below the muffler, is the only area of concern. The area of the hitch frame below the muffler is very close to the ground. This is good, since it protects the muffler and tailpipe from damage. This is a concern when your enter steep driveways and gas station entrances, that have a sharp difference in slopes. We scraped once entering our rental house driveway and twice entering gas stations. After those incidents I was extra careful to evaluate entrances before I committed to entering a business. It wasn't a problem, I only avoided one gas station after that - that gas station was on a hill above the highway....

Everything else about the trailering was groovy! We had 3 to 5 passengers on some of our day excursions to various kayaking destinations.

This car is certainly capable of trailering a long-tongue trailer with a low tongue weight such as 75 lbs. Try to load the trailer evenly from left to right and well as fore and aft of the trailer axle. Constantly check your tongue weight whenever you change your trailer load configuration.

I just bought a hitch for my 2010 VERSA and a bike rack. I am about to install it and then came across this forum. Has anybody been able to verify if installing the hitch for my bike rack will void the warranty of my versa?
