well, I know I am gonna get flamed for this, but I need to knwo, lol. can I tow with a 240sx? Its gonna be an 89 coupe with a 91 KA24DE and no AC, no power accessories, basically the lightest 240sx they ever made. Reason I need to know is this, I am moving from Fargo, ND to Phoenix, AZ and I need to move all my stuff, plus 2 other peoples stuff. and a motorcycle.

SO, I found a 16ft car trailor, dual axel for $650, and I figure I can fit everytrhing we have plus my bike on here no problem. the only other options are .......

1) renting a Uhaul truck for $1750 and towing my car with it2) buying a huge van and towing my car with it, sell the van when I get to phoenix.3) borrowing my freinds dads truck and towing a trailer with all of our shtuff,. then driving it back up here and picking up my car.

I am figuring on about 3 tons max for everything. and with a dual axel, loaded properly, basically Zero tongue weight. I have towed veryu large amounts with my 280zx before, so towing with a sportscar doesn't scare me. I am assuming the engine will be fine, seeing as how it is a stock engine in nissans truck and a single cam KA in my moms truck pulled a 240Z all the way back from AZ without issues.

any help, puh-leeeze??

P.s. the other vehicles making this mecca are a 1989 Mazda MX6 base model and a 1997 Neon 4 door DOHC with an AUTO (blah), so I think my 240sx is the best canidate for a twoing vehicle.

Unless you're really tight on money, my advice would be to rent a truck from someplace. If I read that right, you're planning to tow 3 tons on your 240? :sad

yeah, thats the plan. I know its not the greatest. but if the motor is toast when I get to AZ, I have my CA19DEt to go in but I have towed an 18ft boat with a 90 horse motor on a 20ft trailor with my 280zx. and yes, money is tight. we is all just college kids! lol

edit: dar! Im an idiot! I meant to say 3,000lbs not 3 tons, lol. sorry. 3 tons would be ridiculious for even V6 pathy

The only issues I'd forsee are the stock braking system if you have to haul it down from say 80mph, more than once. Other than that, the engine should be strong enough to take it. That KA just goes and goes.

How long do you think it's going to take you to get to AZ?

Alright, that's a little more reasonable. If there's no tongue weight, then you should be okay... but like Phax said, braking could be an issue.

Good luck!:xfingers

the price was to move from Fargo, ND to phoenix AZ. and that was for a 15ft van. so, its like 1800 miles. thats the price I got from thier website and when I called the local Uhaul place.

thanks for the advice. If I tow with the 240sx, I will keep speeds relatively sane as in 65 to 70mph. hrmmm, braking problems, maybe this is an excuse for the 300zx brake upgrade, lol

the trip will probably be broken into 3 days. gonna go south on I29 then take a right on I40, then take a left in Flagstaff and head into phoenix. the object is to avoid the mountains at all costs.

Zero tongue weight is not a good idea. Number one the trailer is going to wag all over the road. Number two is you will not be able to stop, the tires will just lock up. I don't even know if you could put a hitch on the car that would take that kind of weight. All it will take for your trip to end is one stop light when the car in front of you stops.
