I am thinking about buying a trailer so I can travel a bit with my ATV. I know the Versa says no towing but would a lightweight trailer be ok do you think. I have found a trailer which ways 350 lbs. Its a new trailer..flatdeck that tilts. ( my bike weighs almost 700.)

I'd be worried about the trans taking a crap on you. Is it a CVT?

No towing means no towing. They only gave the G35 a 1,000 lb towing capacity so if it had the ability it would be listed. Several things enter into a cars ability to tow. Mostly the brake's, the engine's, the transmission's, the frame's, and the suspension's ability to handle the load. If they say don't do it, don't do it.

NO. You're talking about a half-ton of weight. Many modern small trucks can't even tow that.

Just imagine driving your car with 6-8 people inside it. Not happening. Also, your car is just a little bit of steel tack-welded together.

If your owners manual specifically warns against towing, there's clearly a compelling reason why. But if you feel it worth risk and can afford to repair the potential damage if something bad happens as a result, then good luck.

Transmission is usually the weakest link in towing--even with trucks. With cars, they're usually just not built for the added stress and will heat up and accelerate death in a hurry.

Second weakest link is the frame. Trucks have beefy ladder frames designed to cope with towing stresses. Cars have unibodies with weak subframes front and rear...none of it is designed for the stresses of towing and you can cause all sorts of nasty permanent damage if you tow stuff that's too heavy.

I would absolutely not tow anything with a Versa. Even when I see people towing small trailers with Pilots and other crossovers I cringe. Transmission just isn't up to it.

You might have better luck towing the car behind the bike.

Just kidding. I agree with everyone else. Maybe do it once if it's an EMERGENCY, but it's just not worth the risk of damaging the Versa.

That's funny stuff right there. Feel free to hang around the forums man. Post up some images and stories of the bike right here in Gen Chat.

Any thoughts on what truck you're gonna purchase?

NEVER, EVER UNDER-TOW! :nono: Biggest rule of thumb is always OVER-TOW! Like folks have mentioned, your brakes are a huge deal. Towing my Vette on a light-weight open alum trailer still increases my stopping distance by a significant amount even though it's far less than the tow limit of the Tundra I pull it with. There have been several dicey occasions where I've had to whomp the brakes because someone has done something foolish in front of me and I've been very lucky to have come out clean each time.

Another thing I was thinking of, if you tow with a vehicle that is either not rated for towing, or towing over it's capacity, your INS will probably not pay.

It is kind of confusing why they actually make hitches for the Versa though... I did confirm that.

I don't think anyone makes one specifically for a Versa, but If you visit race tracks, you'll commonly see a Miata or two hauling mini aluminum trailers to hold race tires. OF course they don't weigh much.

I actually wrote to these people and the answer I received was this hitch would make it possible to tow 2000 lbs.

LOL I was wrong, there is one out there. I suppose if it's on the internet it must be true. :chuckle: It would not shock me if their their "limited" warranty" applies only to that $194 hitch, and not cover a blown transission or frame damage to your $10,000 Versa.
