Manual Trans

Post

I have a 1985 Nissan P/U 720 4 cyl 2.4L manual trans single cab. No mods, but the truck only has 80k miles and runs very strong. Dont know too much about this truck but it does have 8 spark plugs and 8 wires. Does anyone know if it would be safe to haul a boat. Dont have boat yet so dont know how much it weighs but its gonna be a 5-6 person boat. Any info will help. Thanks!

The short answer is no, you'd have trouble towing the trailer for the boat. A V6 would have trouble towing what you want to as well...

Also, It's also not the seating capacity of the boat or number of spark plugs on the truck that's important, it's the combined weight of the boat, trailer, and the stuff you have aboard compared to the tow capacity of your vehicle. You also have to pay attention to the hitch and it's capacity. To give you some perspective, a typical jet ski on a trailer is about 800 lbs give or take. If your trailer has no brakes, that's about all your 720 is rated to handle safely. If your trailer has brakes, you could probably safely handle a pair of jetski's on one trailer. Hope that helps.

You also have to take into consideration the type of terrain you will be traveling. If you have to climb a huge hill while pulling that trailer, the 720 might not make it to the top. Also, coming down the other side with questionable / no brakes would be rather terrifying.

depends on the boat. a small john boat might be ok...it won't get it's a** out of it's own way, but would probably pull a small aluminum john
