Hey guys, I have a 02 QX4 with new OME springs with the KYB GR2 shock/struts. I was wondering whats the max tow capacity of the QX4s . I have a Class 3 hitch installed and I'm looking to tow a 23ft boat...aprox. 3000lbs. Can the QX handle it???? I'm only driving a few miles to the boat ramp...no long range driving. Anyone ever tow something this big???

5000 lbs for the automatic transmission, 3500 for the manual.

I've towed a few boats; none that long (around 18' or so) or heavy (around 2000 lbs; were camping and used the boat as a cargo trailer for a bunch of stuff). My Pathy (automatic) didn't give me any problems, even in the mountains. I've towed shorter, heavier trailers and it handled it fine as well.

A few miles with a boat should be a walk in the park.

6000km? That's quite the move, a cross-Canada trip? Vancouver to Moncton is close to that.

I've never towed something that far, mostly just camping trips from Edmonton to inner B.C. I'd definitely invest in an aux transmission cooler, but others can chime in on if the Pathy's up to something like that or not.

Halifax To Calgary. I estimated on the distance it might actually by closer to 5000km. Aux transmission cooler huh? I'll have to look into that.

edit: googled and its 4,763 km. oops.

i would advise on getting the airlift 1000 kit for like 90$ from amazon i think and putting that in when you will be towing, i towed a heavy trailer a couple times and thats what sh^tted out my rear springs.

Id especially look in investing that like 90$ cause it is useful to have installed, and i think i remember you just recently changed your suspension so id spend the 90$ to not ruin it. Im lowered but if i have a full load of people or buy some heavy things when im shopping it weighs it down a little so id use the airlift to make it not sit on my springs to help keep them working for longer.

And the most ive towed on my pathfinder is probably back when it had like 85-90k miles and it was a 2000lbs trailer, it was like 7-8 miles from my house but i was getting sand and a bunch of crushed stone for my driveway i was making and i ordered like 1 cu yard of stuff each but the guy dumped way more on anyways. Id say there was about 7500 MAYBE 8000lbs total weight of the trailer plus load. But i took the way back to my house which had all the flat roads and no hills so i wouldnt mess up the trans or anything and it handled it fine.

Haha, I did the exact same thing -- towed a couple loads of black dirt; judging by the volume, it was probably in the 7500lbs range. About 10km from there to my parent's place. Just accelerated slow and it was fine, especially on empty country roads, but not something I'd want to do on a regular basis.
