I REALLY want an '08 or '09 3.5 Coupe, but I need to occasionaly (not that often, once a month perhaps) tow a small cargo trailer. The trailer's empty weight is about 850 lbs. With my fat a_s in there, I am just about at the limit of 1000 lbs with no cargo. I figure I would be about 1250 lbs max with cargo. Most of the towing would be highway (not much stop & go), except for from the house to the interstate and interstate to the flying field (I fly R/C turbine powered jets, that's the cargo. Too big for the Coupe by far).
I am thinking that the weak link and the reason for the 1000 lb max rating is the CVT. Assuming I always take it nice and easy when accelerating when the trailer is attached, does anyone see a serious issue here? Anyone know of someone doing something similar with a CVT? Any really bad consequences that I am not seeing?
Thanks Altima experts!
I don't think its the cvt, it was the same used on the Muranos, and they weigh about 4000LBS compared to our 3200LBS and has a towing capacity of 3500lbs. So no its not the CVT. I think the answer is obvious, if both have the same engine, same transmission then its the frame of car, the car obviously is not designed to tow weight, and in all honesty would you want to tow with a coupe?? I am sure the coupe could tow a similar load however, I think the problem is the car would take off with the back end still attached to your trailer.
Get the coupe and then buy a cheap old truck for towing other wise, sorry but towing with a coupe is dumb, speaking of which I cannot believe someone would butcher a Gallardo with the similar fashion.
