Towing Capacity

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I wonder what the towing capacity of the EX35 will be? I will strongly consider this car but I need to tow a small boat a few times a year. I don't need the 3500 towing capacity of the FX though and would prefer a slighly small crossover. Thanks

I haven't seen anything official yet, but I imagine it'll be right around 1500 lb.

I would guess it would be around the 1000lb range like the G35X. The two seem to share the closest platform. Possibly a little higher like The Minister said.

Nothing official released yet though.

The EX35 must have a higher towing capacity than 1000-1500 lbs. The BMW X3 has a towing capacity of 3500 lbs and it has a curb weight of 4012 lbs (compared to 3953 for the EX35) and only 260 HP (vs 297 for the EX35). Will have to wait and see.

Towing information has been conspicuously absent from all the Web Sites.

I just checked one of the manuals of one of our in stock EX35 Journey AWD, and this is a direct quote for the manual.

"Your vehicle was designed to be used to carrypassengers and cargo. INFINITI does not recommendtrailer towing, because it places additionalloads on your vehicle's engine, drivetrain, steering, braking, and other systems."

NO Towing

That seems like a dumb thing to engineer in my opinion.

OK ... let me understand this. The EX35 is a 4,000lb ... 300 hp vehicle that is not capable of towing anything ? Why is it I am having a problem with this ?

why would anyone want to pull anything with a motor vehicle that has no frame. we sure miss those good old frames. On the other hand, anyone buying a vehicle such as an EX35 does not pull anything. they are either permantely at the country house or at the marina.

I don't see the fuss about towing anything wth anything else than a towing. I wonder how towing a Seadoo will impact the EX35 0 to 60 performance ???

Michel,

The need for a frame to have a towing capacity is old school thinking. All the cars in the EX35 class all have 1500 to 3500 lbs. of towing capacity. Today you can have towing capacity with CUV's and cars having: front drive, 200 HP and no frame.

Towing a small boat to the Tampa Bay is a common site where I live. Towing information has been conspicuously absent on this car this year, towing capacity will show up in later years.
