i think you can tow 1000lbs with it, but not 100% sure.i think people have put like a small trailer to the back of the 240 to carry their tires and what not to drifting events:)

this might sound crazy but how about another 240sx without an engine, just the shell

Not sure if your tires could handle it. If they could, you might be able to, it'd just be reaal slow.

Well, I can't speak for a 240. But my 96 pickup has a sohc ka and I pulled my girls 91 Dohc behind me and still moved faster than the traffic around me. But the truck has a stronger clutch......but then again it has shorter final drive. I don't see any reason you can't tow a 240 with a 240.

In part most of towing isn't relying on the engine, but more so the frame and rear end too. Enging can probably handle it, but it'll probably yank the car apaprt.

Not sure, because I'm new to 240sx's and just starting to learn as I'm going to pick up my first one this coming friday. I've been in 300ZX's. I know the older (z31) can tow like small trailers (bikes and small water craft), but pulling another 300 (with motor) would tear it up. Don't know about w/o motor. Probably ok. So with that said, gotta figure out what the frame and rear can handle.

Just feather the clutch out, drive nice and slow in a semi low gear like 3rd and stay on the back streets and you should be fine. Remember, you have a 240, that means torque .

seriously a 240 towing a 240 sounds very possible. I wonder how much the tow kit would be. would it be cheaper to get a tow truck or renting a truck?

i hope your not thinking about using the tow hook if its an s13...it could probably get the job done if you are using a hitch (if you really had to do it) but i wouldnt recommend it. dont you have a friend with a trailer and a truck?

or maybe if you use 1 of those ropes that are strong enough to tow? hook it to the tow hook(or whatever its called) and to the front of the other car(which also has a hook), it should be strong enough since its supposed to be able to hold the weight of the car itself.

Someone is supposed to be in the other car. You go really slow and when you want to break the person behind starts the brakeing to slow the car in front down. This keeps the line tight so it won't snap when you get moveing again.

Sounds like the car may not have brakes.

Ok.. Everyone is positive it'll do it. I'm gonna say this. I've NEVER use a 4 cyl to tow anything (I'm usually towing a 4 cyl with my Z or my Z with a truck.... Probably why it's dead now...RIP..lol). That in itsself has me nervous. I agree that if you take it slow on back streets you should be ok.

I saw on ebay a 240 with a hitch for sale. So I know it can be done.I say your best of options is ropes on the toe hooks if this is 1. a one time thing and 2. the car you're towing has a driver and brakes.

That would just be me.

i had to tow my 240sx to where my brother works(he works at a toyota dealer as a mechanic) so we could use a lift and swap a bad motor, we towed it with a jeep cherokee that didn't have a hitch so we just used a rope, i drove the jeep and my brother was in the 240, we went through easy roads and he was the 1 that would usually brake, not me(tho after we almost stopped totally i'd use the brakes too), we didn't go more than ~35mph so the rope didn't snap.(it had been sitting for at least a week without the engine been started, but brakes still worked)

I hold the nico record for towing with a 240. (automatic) I have towed a 2000lbs car with a (850lbs) car dolly for 200 miles. I've towed a 5x8 uhaul trailer with 2,000lbs of crap in it for 1250 miles @60mph and had to climb a 5,000 foot mountain. A hitch and wiring will set you back $150 and well worth it

Still, without power breaks or steering, it's a BIG pain... I had a hard time doing the same in my dad's SC2 that broke down. we towed it about 100 feet and it had a hard time stopping the two times we had to, and that only weighs 2600lbs... an S13 would have the same problem.
