I just got a new dark color car, which means I'll be washing it on a weekly basis, most likely by hand or power washer.

Most of these car wash places don't have their own towels or dryers, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good material to use or where to find special towels that work best with cars, especially with dark metallic colors.

Use microfibre towels. Anything a little hard will leave nasty swirl marks. Be gently when you dry your car.

I found this in my closet:

The tag says 80% Polyester 20% Polyamide

Never been used...can I use this for anything? It seems strictly for cleaning and not necessarily drying..

I use Zaino products on my cars.
Also wash them in the shade so that I can dry them before the sun does.
I dry with a all cotton towel in one hand (to get the bulk) then quickly finish the area with a leather chamois.
Have never dried with a microfiber towel, but I do use one after I've removed my Zaino with an all cotton towel.

Nobody here agrees with me on this one, but go to Auto Zone or Wal-Mart and buy you an Absorber. It will dry your car better than anything. Get it clean and wring it really dry and wipe your windows with it inside and out. I PROMISE you you will be satisfied.

My Camaro is 15 years old today (Happy Birthday Rambo!) and he doesn't have any swirl marks at all. I have used Zaino on him most of his life. I can win 1st or 2nd place in any car show I put him in.

Waffle weave microfiber. I've used microfiber before and, there's absolutely no comparison. You should be able to find them at www.deatiledimage.com or if you're a Costco member, you can buy them in bulk.

That puppy is pretty much for washing. However, sheepskin is a better bang for the buck.
I've used them and they work well.

I picked up The Absorber at Auto Zone on the way home (from work...on a Saturday???).

I did a quick washdown and this thing is awesome! Works pretty darn well!

I keep mine in the trunk for emergencies. You will love the way it does windows. No lint or streaking.

Stay away from cheap microfiber towels. I get mine from Griot's Garage.

I've never heard of the absorber. I'm gonna have to try one out. I hate black and how easy it shows any swirls.

+1 for the aborber. Dont rub it. Just set lay the whole thing flat and you basically dab the car dry.
As for microfiber. I did a huge writeup on it but I cant find my pics since I did a major transfer. A good test of a microfiber is to get a blank cdr and rub the towl with the same pressure as u would on your car on the cdr shiny surface. If it scratches eaisily then dont use that towl but if it doesnt scratch much or at all then its fairly safe.
