Hi everyone

I purchased a Hidden Hitch for my 08 Rogue. Per some Youtube video`s, it looked like it was going to be smooth sailing.

On the passenger side, 4 bolts to remove ; they were a bit rusty but no huge deal.
On the drivers side, 3 empty holes where the bolts for the hitch will go ...

Those 3 empty holes!!!! Since they have been exposed to +-5 years of snow, mud & all, the threads are massively rusted. I have tried WD40, a toothbrush, a wire brush for a 12-gauge shotgun, etc. Nothing will let me screw in the bolts to hold the drivers side part of the hitch.

Any ideas appreciated.

M.

Might be time to purchase a tap with the same thread pattern.

Update for anyone that runs into the same issue.

I took it to a local garage. They took out at 1/2 inch "tap" and within 10 minutes my hitch was installed.

believe it or not, I had a 2002 maxima and i ran into the same problem, and muscled the bolts in by HAND into those welded nuts on the frame rail. lol

since i was working after hours, no stores were open. but i needed the hitch installed THAT night. what i needed to do is: simply buy a drill bit wire brush like this and work it with WD-40 (or gritty tooth paste):

Hey, Imstricken
I just purchased a trailer and was wondering if your ball mount is really loud installed in your hitch receiver from inside the vehicle.
Is there a cure for this? Seems like its extra loose on top and bottom when the pin is installed.

Im going to install the wire kit myself sometime within the week, may post some pictures.

For the wire kit, check on Youtube ("nissan rogue trailer wiring" or something like that) ... there are 2-3 detailed installs in there. I just followed those instead of following the documentation. For the wire that has to go to the battery, I recommend routing it via the passenger side (one of the videos does it via drivers side) I found the passenger side and places I could route it though offered much better protection to the wire.

This one does a really good job for the part in the back ; the connections. However I did not like how they routed the wire to the front; the cable was way to exposed in my opinion.

This one I liked the routing, via the passenger side, over the gas tank and along with the other cables all the way to the front.

oh yea. when its not carrying any weight, its gonna bobble around worse than we used too- while riding on the back of the school bus.

just make sure the ball you are using is the same size as the trailer coupler. grease the ball. and dont over tighten the coupler nut. if you bought a used trailer, see this thread i made: post6494116.html

I searched and searched and searched, and couldnt find out if i had this plug or not. No matter, the aftermarket wiring harness is a 3rd the cost as the oem.

FOR THE GUYS RUNNING A POWER WIRE FROM THE BATTERY, TO THE TOWING HARNESS CONTROL UNIT, SINCE YOU ALREADY HAVE A POWER SOURCE - INSTALL THIS!! (this is my up coming install - among many other things to do lol). just drill a ~1inch hole and pop this socket in, and wire it up. you'll have a steady socket in the rear of the trunk area.
