I really want to start building a system for my new z. However, I will not replace one item in the car unless i can change the headunit AND have all steering wheel controls work as they did stock (as well as the bluetooth).

Suggestions please?

as far as I know the only way to retain the stock controlls is to find an installer comfortable with taking apart the new source unit as well as the stock wiring and making it work, I know this has been done to other cars in the past and have no knowledge of it being done on a 350Z but I assume it would be the same labor intensive PITA

pac-audio has an interface that will work with the steering controls and basically turns it into a universal remote. However, it requires the headunit to have a compatible IR receiver and it's not without it's quirks. It tends to provide a delayed signal (about 1/2 second) and can only handle a limited number of functions. Though, I'd imagine if you are just using the steering wheel controls only, then you should stay within the maximum number of functions. I had mine hooked up to a SAT channel adaprter on a G35 which also allowed me to program many of the buttons on the factory stereo itself to IR commands.

As far as bluetooth, I'm not sure. If it's integrated t the OE stereo, then you'll probably lose it. However, if you're going aftermarket, there are many headunits that have Bluetooth modules you can attach.
