Has anyone competed in this before? I'm doing the Nov. 21 event.

I'm fine with the running, and with the obstacles. But the combination of the two, plus the cold water, has me wondering how best to prepare. I've checked out a few websites, and got some good info. But if anyone has indeed done this before, and has some specific advice, that would be great.

I'm actually doing it on the 20th... :)

My preparation...I'm doing the Marine Corps Marathon on October 31 :yesnod:

Haha, other than that, nothing really. For the most part you're adreneline should kick you past all the cold water stuff. Just make sure you're running a lot during the week to build up the distance endurance (its liek 12 miles or so) and then try taking cold showers at night to get your body used to the cold.

Good luck on the 20th. And definitely good luck with the MCM! That's awesome.

I'm really counting on adreneline for this. I've never been a long-distance runner. More short-distance and sprinting. I thought these races were only about 5-6 miles, which I can handle. Then I found out today it was 12, so now I'm freaking. The last year or so I've been focusing on weight training, mostly for mass. Cardio took a back seat. So the next 6 weeks will be strictly running and cardio training. Yeah, I think I'm f***ed...

Great idea with the cold showers. I'm definitely going to do that. What are you doing for footwear? Regular running sneakers, or are you going trail sneakers?

Im probably just going to wear the oldest pair of shoes I can find...they're getting chucked after the race anyway :-p I midfoot strike anyway, so the shoe that I wear on dirt ground really doesn't matter that much to me...plus you're going to be water logged and muddy...

6 weeks is ample time to get in shape for it I would say. Its only 12 miles...not that hard. And don't forget you get to stop and do the obsticle, so you get some time to rest. I'd say at most you're running 2-3 miles at a time.
