I noticed a rust spot on the frame under my driver's side passenger door. Anyone know the name or code for the gold J30? I need some touchup paint to take care of this eye sore. Also, is there anything I need to do first before touching it up?

If its rusting you may want to use a little bit of rust inhibiting primer. use a fine paint brush like the ones you can find at a dollar store.

The gold paint was used on a number of Nissan vehicles up untill recently, if you go to a Nissan dealer you can get an exact match paint.

Personally, I never use the paint brush that comes with the touch up paint. I use a tooth pick and dribble the paint in to the scratch till the scratch is full and to level with the rest of the paint.

I wait for the paint to dry fully and if there is a small blob I use a fine grit wet sandpaper and sand it down gently using a back and forth motion.

After sanding, I use a mild abrasive polishing compound and then I seal the area with a car wax (preferbly one with the most Carnuaba content).

The results look professional.

Thanks Driver. I noticed the scratch a couple weeks ago when my car was in the shop. I didn't mention it at the time, but some kid must have been trying to skateboard off of the roof of my car or was goofing off while it was parked at the train station. When I got back the roof had a huge dent and there were more smaller dents on the hood. Thankfully my insurance covered it. I ended up basically getting my entire car repainted for the cost of my deductable. The repair shop even installed my spoiler for me!

I'll visit a Nissan or Infiniti dealer this weekend to see about the touchup paint. Your tips for making it look good should serve me well.

I neglected to mention use a toothpick that is flat, it will do a much better job dribbling in the paint to fill in the scratch than a round toothpick.

Also shake the touch up paint for at least 5-7 minutes before using. I suspect the gold paint has some metal fleck inside it.

This isn't a scratch, but a roundish rust spot. Should I still use a toothpic?

Advance Auto, O'Reily's, Auto Zone, etc sell touch-up paint and it is around $5 instead of $15 plus shipping. I know, I have hundreds of them in my shop. I sell used cars.
