So my job has sent me to Phoenix until next Friday.
First thing... DAMN IT'S HOT!!!
Second, what the hell should I do this weekend? I don't have a car and have no idea what is going on around here.
Greg or any other Niconauts have anything in mind that is possible?

I'm in Scottsdale, which is the "high end" of the Phx area. Pretty much snobville. It's very nice though if you like things like high end shopping/dinning.

Greg is on the complete other side of town, west side.

As far as plans, Phoenix isn't exactly the most "fun" city in the country. It's mostly nice because it's closer to other cites like L.A./Vegas/Mexico/Colorado. It kinda depends on what you want to do.

Where are you staying? What do you like to do?

I'm staying at the Residence Inn by Phoenix airport, and I'm def not looking to blow $300 shopping lmao.
Any good places to eat or just hang out? Any meets?

Well, there is a small-ish car show every Saturday at the Scottsdale Pavillions. It's a decent turnout of muscle cars and a little of everything else. It's mostly a local get together/social event of regulars though. I've been a few times, it's meh.... But since you're not going to be here on Saturday, it doesn't matter.

As far as food, south Scottsdale is the place to go for non-franchise places, that aren't dives. You can find pretty much whatever you want down there. The nightlife/art scene is there as well, along with the area's nicest mall. If you're looking to eat on the cheap at restaurants with character/history, downtown Phx has most of them. If you like Chicken/Waffles, go to Lo Lo's. There's one in downtown Phx along with S Scottsdale.

Everywhere else's big attractions are mostly franchise shopping areas. Just run-in-the-middle chain stores.

If you're by the airport, Tempe Marketplace is near you, as with ASU Campus (Tempe).

Up in the northeast corner of PHX by the high end car dealerships there is Penske Racing Museum. Bunch of old race cars and stuff. I think it's worth seeing, and it's free :) Then the Lambo/Ferrari/MB dealership is right there as well, so you can go drool on the exotics

Yeah, you can hit all that stuff if you go up SCOTTSDALE road. The Penske Museums and exotic car dealerships will be just south of the 101 Highway.

Starting at the 101 Highway (furthest north part), you can take that road all the way down past Kierland (where I work) to South Scottsdale. It's pretty much the main artery of Scottsdale and where all the nice places are located at. And once you take Scottsdale all the way down South, you'll hit Tempe, which is mostly focused around ASU. And Tempe is pretty close to the airport.

If you have a LOT of spare time there are also guided Jeep tours through Sedona about an hour north. Real neat experience. There's also a waterpark up in the northwest iirc that is pretty fun. It's just hot as balls, and the lines are probably gonna be somewhat bad this time of year.

Aaaand there's Castles and Coasters over in the west i think. Stay away from there. Crappy, crappy place.

Castles and Coasters is teh ghetto, lol. It's not a nice place, don't go there. It's like a permanent county fair, lol.

As for waterparks, our new one Wet and Wild off the I-17/101 is VERY nice. I went last Wednesday. It was SUPER busy so expect to wait in line.

I heard Scottsdale was one of the top cities in the US for foreclosures.

The whole state is eat up to death with it. There is a house down the street that is identical to ours. Sold for $100K less than the original asking price. Damn.

Wouldn't doubt it. All of Phx is full of foreclosures.

Scottsdale's houses though have managed to keep their value though through this recession. Yeah, they're affected, but nothing as crazy as in the outskirts of Phx like where Greg/Bex are. 100K below asking is NUTS.

Great for the buyer though. Houses are pretty much dirt cheap. It's just that no one can afford them, lol.

Market is awesome for buyers. My sister and I bought a house in Scottsdale last year for a little under 200k. The house was last bought for 560k during the height of the bubble a few years back. It's ridiculous.

Greg, you are amazing, you know that? Unfortunately I don't get out of training until 430ish every day, so I won't be able to get to your house before 4. But I cannot begin to thank you enough for your offer :yesnod

Well, if you can get a lift over this way, even if it's later in the day, I'll arrange for you to have access to the keys. Bex and I will be out until Tuesday night, but you're welcome to pop by for supper one night this week if you like.

My cell is still listed under the list of mods, so if you want to reach out to me that would be the best way to go about it. :)
