Had a similar mishap involving that black "A" pillar right behind the drivers window. I went to an auto store and got a gloss black paint stick. NO GOOD! The paint stick couldn't blend in with the rest of the pillar. AND for good reason! I took the G to a local auto body shop and they educated me as to what was required to fix that pillar. I thought that the gloss black surface was painted onto the metal pillar. Wrong! It turns out that there is a gloss black plastic/vinyl
sheet that is applied over those metal "A" pillars. They are NOT painted. The auto body shop had to special order (of course) these "appliques" from the local Albuquerque Infiniti dealer. Took about a week for them to arrive. Wasn't a big deal to have one of their body specialists remove the old applique and apply the new one. Final cost (including the purchase of the applique) was $100. Looks brand new now and well worth the price.
By the bye. I have platinum graphite paint on my '09 G 37 sedan. I purchased a correct color paint stick from the Infiniti dealer to touch up a minor scrape that I have on my right side front bumper. The color of the platinum graphite paint stick is much too light (more of an aluminum color). For the color to match, must the surface be primed before hand? Is the fact that the undersurface is not metal but plastic causing the paint stick to not match the body color? Has anyone tried to touch up this platinum graphite with any success?
