2010 Altima Coupe 3.5SR-Wrecked

Post

Hey guys,

Here's a hell of a story and a bit of a warning for those about to use roadside assistance. A few weeks ago my 2010 3.5SR wouldn't start in my driveway. I called Nissan Roadside Assistance, and they sent a tow truck. While on the tow truck, someone rear-ended it. The driver that crashed into it was texting and was charged with careless driving. For the past 2 weeks I've been fighting this, since my insurance company wanted to fix my car with over 15k worth of damages, and give it back to me. Obviously, no one would ever buy it again and it will never be the same, so I don't want it back. After getting several different appraisals and putting my engineering degree to good use, I convinced them that it was a write off and I'm getting a new one. What really concerns me about this is how NOBODY in this situation would take responsibility. Roadside assistance and the tow truck company wouldn't provide an ounce of help. So look out guys, think twice before you get your car towed.

With that being said, should I get a 2012, or hold out?

Sorry to hear, good luck.

2012 Altima Coupe, do you really love it that much. I my Coupe but to buy it again? No.

It took a long time, don't know what it is but I'm loving the 370Z! I even tried trading her in but dealerships either don't have '11's or they won't give me 0% financing.

If not the 370Z, I say wait for Toyota & Subaru's upcoming Coupes.

I think he probably needs a car sooner than 2048, which is the model year Toyota will finally release this. They're about as bad as Chevy with the Camaro (made a movie in 2006, came out as a MY 2010.) This thing has been 'Ring testing for about 65 years now.

If it is going to be your only car, trust me, DON'T buy a Z. I went to target in my 370Z the other night and bought a poster frame and had to put it in my buddy's alero.

Genesis is fully sick, as long as you're getting something that isn't next year's model (based on looks alone - the front looks like a geometry experiment).

Altimas, unfortunately, are a dime a dozen, so are treated as such either way. I can tell you though, if you had a 370, they would never have totalled it out. They're retaining value very well. The G's aren't holding up as well, but they have been out a tad longer.

Moral of the story - they're cars, and $#it happens. It's not really the towing company's fault either if some idiot barged through your car while talking on the phone.

It's coming out next fall. There's already a placeholder at the Scion website. Production version to be revealed at Tokyo next month.

Which, as it turns out, is going to be coming out in turbo'd form soon, so it won't be as agonizingly slow.

Alright guys, after many weeks and considering quite literally EVERY car under 40k in Canada, I went with another AC. Basically, I got it for 30.3k before tax and delivery. Thats 5.5k taken off here in Canada. It just ended up being dirt cheap, and I already have winter wheels for it. After a deal fell through on a 2010 STi, it was my only choice. In the long run, I got it cheaper and with a backup camera.

But again, insurance in Canada is a crooked system (Ontario and BC at least). Fight the good fight, and eventually you will win if you are in the right. It's amazing what insurance companies get away with.

Edit: For anyone interested:

Front end was much worse. Keep in mind it was sandwiched between a tow truck and pathfinder, taking a lot of the impact through the front wheel wells via the tow truck lifts.

Crazy pic! Way to rock the suit, and have a good spirit even though something really really crappy had just happened.

Seems like YOUR insurance company should have been fighting for you against the other drivers company. Since the dude was completely at fault. However I do not know if Canada is no fault insurance or not...

(First post for me since 2009...no idea why...just felt like coming back and reading up on some new events, haha)

wow dude, are you Will Farrel's brother???? Awesome pic btw.

I would have waited for the 2013's to come out just to see what there is or gone with the new 2013 gen coupe since it looks a little better and has more power although their transmission's are a bit of a pain and temperamental.

I know the 2013 is probably going to be nicer, but I figure that's how I got such a good deal on this one. Nissan was offering $4000 cash off, plus I already own snow tires for this thing. But yeah, I CAREFULLY considered every option!

And as far as my insurance company fighting for me, that's what I figured. Not how it turned out! The appraiser was on a first name basis with the auto body shop my car was originally taken to. He undervalued the repairs by about 40%, which conveniently kept it within the amount the insurance company would repair before considering it a right off. Of course it's in the auto body shop's best interest for it to NOT be written off. By insurance law in Ontario, you can request to have it brought to a shop of your choosing for repair, 'insurer approved' or not. Funny thing is, most descent shops won't do insurance work because they can't higher skilled workers for the flat rate that insurance companies pay for labor. While it guarantees the shop won't be complete crap, an 'insurance approved' shop won't be the best. So I brought my car to another shop and it had re-appraised by the head appraiser. I also wrote a lengthy report about how cars are not designed, tested or certified for this type of collision. Considering I'm an engineer, I think they took this seriously. There is a lot of liability involved. I think if you're serious about taking them to court, they take the situation a little more seriously and make sure they do their job right.
