Car: Nissan Versa

Post

I was driving home from a volleyball tournament on the 5 North Interstate freeway at about penrose in California, in my white 2009 Nissan Versa SL hatchback last weekend when I started hearing tires screeching, I looked farther ahead and I saw a flipped car in my lane a good couple of hundred feet ahead. I slammed on my brakes and started honking so cars behind me wouldn't rear-end me. I pulled to a stop and saw that the car on its side was a brand new white Nissan Versa sedan. Once all traffic stopped, I threw my hazards on and ran out of my car along with a couple of other people in cars around me to see if the people were okay. A trucker lifted the door open and we peered inside asking if everyone was okay, (I was terrified i was going to see a dead body ) the people were completely dazed and barely moving but they kept saying they were fine.

Then we asked if we could flip the car back over and they said that we could, so we started rocking the car until we got it right-side up. I called 911 and picked the debris up from the surrounding lanes and threw it into the "occupied" lane. Me and my friend started waving traffic through until the ambulance and firemen got there.

Here are some pictures, bad quality but it was at night and with my phone on super short notice.

There are pictures of the car itself, then my Versa stopping traffic, and finally the firefighters coming to the rescue.

Good job.

Just a heads up, be careful when "flipping" a car back over in the future, especially a high speed crash. You can do some real damage to a person's spine and neck.

Then again, the V is a very safe car.

I have an emergency light in mine for running EMS calls, I'll try to get a picture for you guys sometime.

Yeah, the people inside said they were okay. I felt sketchy about flipping it back over but that trucker took command ahaha.

Yeah this accident really made me feel super safe in my car. This car was mangled up and got thrown around quite a bit at high speeds. All the airbags deployed and the people said they were totally fine!

Go Nissan safety!!!

Yes, that was extremely nice of you to stop and help them out. Very few people today would do that!

This just proves how safe the Versa is. I'm glad I went w/ this car :D

Make sure you write down the details to what you did to help and who said you could "upright" the vehicle because insurance companies will want to blame any additional physical damages to to "good samaritan(s)".

I know of incidents where that has taken place.. so protect yourself bro..

But kudo's to you for being a Good Samaritan!

Life would be so much better if more people, would go that extra mile!

Not to sound gruesome, but I would love to hear how the accident happened, how the occupants faired, etc. It's a great story for the car (yet unfortunate circumstances). Do you have a news report or newspaper story to link to?

Yeah, don't you ever mess with a vehicle like that until the occupants are out. You could have really done some further damage. Best thing to do is to tell them to remain calm and still and wait for EMS to arrive.
